We welcomed a gridiron legend and talked a lot of hockey and football on Monday’s Episode #1,088 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and hockey analyst Sarina Taylor kicked off the show with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays win the Tampa series and have Monday off, 2) Sunday NHL leftovers including the Flames routing the Canucks 10-0 in their preseason opener (Sarina didn’t feel it was a case of running up the score), 3A) Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel declines to make history in Miami’s 70-20 NFL win over Denver, 3B) Bisons kicker Maya Turner makes history as the first female player to score points in a USPORTS game, 4) CFL Week 16 recap, 5) Six Canadian NHL teams are in action on Monday and there’s a Predators/Hurricanes doubleheader in Sunrise, and 6) On Monday Night Football the Eagles visit the Bucs and the Rams visit the Bengals.
  • CFL career wins leader Wally Buono joined the show from Vancouver for a wide-ranging chat. Regarding the Dolphins declining to run up the score, Wally feels “each case is different”. Buono explained Friday night’s fundraiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation where he’s inviting a top bidder to watch Friday’s Riders/Lions game with him. Regarding the playoff race in the CFL, Wally said all you need to do is get in!
  • The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Should females be allowed to play mens team sports? At press time, 60% of respondents said yes.
  • Virgil Holmes of the Premier Sports Card Convention in Red Deer (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) joined the show to preview the event and discuss the sports collectibles industry.
  • Veteran Calgary broadcaster and Voice of the Stampeders Mark Stephen joined the show to open Hour 2 and discussed the Flames rout of Vancouver, the struggles of the 4-10 Stampeders (he feels they’re lacking overall consistency) and had a look through the NFL.
  • Vegas Golden Knights beat writer Jessie Granger of The Athletic joined the show for a VGK outlook. He feels this year’s team won’t look much different from the one which captured the Stanley Cup last season. Jessie went through the roster and explained the position battles. Regarding the Vegas sports landscape, Jessie said that the Golden Knights are #1 by far ahead of the NFL’s Raiders.
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day was Markcast host Reid Johnson. Monday’s was Wally Buono!
