The Penguins now lead 3-2 and can clinch a second straight Stanley Cup appearance with a win in Ottawa on Tuesday.

Canada has relinquished its crown at the world hockey championship. The defending back-to-back winners dropped a 2-1 shootout loss to Sweden in the gold medal game in Cologne, Germany on Sunday afternoon. Nicklas Backstrom and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored in the shootout for the Swedes.

Graham Knott scored twice and added an assist as the host Windsor Spitfires downed the WHL champion Seattle Thunderbirds 7-1 in round-robin play at the Memorial Cup on Sunday. Windsor improved to 2-0 while the Thunderbirds fell to 0-2. Julius Nattinen also scored two for the Spitfires while Logan Brown had a goal and two helpers.

The Nashville Predators have confirmed centre Ryan Johansen needed emergency surgery because he suffered from compartment syndrome in his left thigh. Nashville’s G-M detailed Johansen’s condition in a statement today, two days after the Predators announced their top scorer’s season had been ended by a thigh injury.

An error, a three-run homer and Marco Estrada provided the Toronto Blue Jays with a feel-good victory against the Baltimore Orioles. Estrada matched his career high with 12 strikeouts and Toronto averted a three-game sweep with a 3-1 win at Camden Yards. Devon Travis hit a three-run homer in the first.
