RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the only goal in the shootout to lead the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 National Hockey League victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev each had a goal and an assist, and Logan Thompson came off the bench to make 20 saves as Vegas beat Ottawa.

DENVER (AP) – Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and two assists to extend his point streak to 15 games, and Colorado beat San Jose.

 

 

WHL

CALGARY – Maxim Muranov scored once and added two assists, Calgary scored four goals in the first period, and the Hitmen coasted to a 7-4 victory over the visiting Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the WHL on Sunday:

Edmonton, Alta. – The Regina Pats earned four of a possible six points this weekend to close off the first-half schedule, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday inside Rogers Place.

Jaxsin Vaughan and Borya Valis scored for the Pats while Madden Mulawka made 27 saves in his Regina Pats debut. The Pats finish their first-half schedule 3-1-1-1 over their last six games while also picking up four of six points over their three-in-three weekend in Alberta.

Going into the Christmas break, the Pats are now 13-16-2-2 with 30 points which is just two points back of the eighth and final playoff spot.

CURLING

Joel Retornaz (zhoh-EL’ rih-TOR’-naz) and his top-ranked Italian rink edged Scotland’s Ross Whyte 3-2 to win the men’s final at the Grand Slam of Curling’s WFG Masters in Saskatoon. Retornaz is just the sixth men’s skip in Grand Slam history to win three tournaments in a row. Earlier, Ottawa’s Rachel Homan beat Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni 8-4 in the women’s final. It’s the 14th career Grand Slam title for Homan.
