CFL

The Montreal Alouettes didn’t panic when they trailed the visiting Edmonton Elks 17-6 at halftime on Sunday. Instead, the CFL’s top team made adjustments on both sides of the ball and then outscored the Elks 15-0 in the second half to post a 21-17 victory and improve to 10-and-1. The Elks had their three-game win streak halted and slipped to 3-and-8.

NFL

The NFL wrapped up its pre-season schedule on Sunday with three games. The Denver Broncos, who went 3-and-0 in the exhibition contests, blitzed the winless Arizona Cardinals 38-12; the 3-and-0 Tennessee Titans outlasted the 1-and-2 Saints 30-27 in New Orleans; and the 1-and-2 Washington Commanders beat the visiting 1-and-2 New England Patriots 20-10.

MLB

  • The Toronto Blue Jays, who just swept a four-game series with the visiting Los Angeles Angels, will play two games today at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. The teams will first finish a game from June 26th that was suspended after one inning due to rain. Then, they’ll play their regularly-scheduled game later in the evening.
  • Boston Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen will enjoy his odd slice of baseball history today as he prepares to become the first major-league player ever to appear in the same game for both teams. Jansen was in the lineup for the Toronto Blue Jays when their June 26th game in Boston was suspended due to rain. He was then traded to Boston.
  • Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 50th homer of the season, connecting in the first inning against the Colorado Rockies. Then he connected for Number 51 in the seventh in New York’s 10-3 victory. Judge joined Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Babe Ruth as the only players in major-league history with three 50-homer seasons.

LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES

Lathan Norton scored from second base on an overthrow at first as Lake Mary, Florida, rallied today to beat Taiwan 2-1 in eight innings and claim the Little League World Series championship in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. This is the first championship in nine tries for Florida, which also came from behind in its 10-7 semifinal win over Texas on Saturday.

SOCCER

  • The Columbus Crew, which won the 2023 M-L-S Cup, added the Leagues Cup to their trophy case on Sunday after defeating visiting Los Angeles F-C 3-1 in front of 20,190 fans at Lower-dot-com Field. The Crew scored twice in second-half stoppage time to snap a 1-1 deadlock and win the title. The Crew also clinched an automatic berth in the Round of 16 of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
  • The Vancouver Whitecaps and the Hamilton-based Forge F-C, winners of the first leg of the Canadian Championship semifinal series, will be looking to advance on Tuesday. The Whitecaps, who beat the Victoria-based Pacific F-C 1-0 on July 10th, host the Canadian Premier League side on Tuesday at B-C Place, while Toronto F-C, upset 2-1 on July 10th, host the B.C. team on Tuesday at BMO (bee-mow) Field.
