- The visiting Boston Red Sox slugged four solo homers in a 7-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday. Tyler O’Neill of Burnaby, BC, took Toronto starter Yusei Kikuchi deep on two occasions. Boston outhit Toronto 11-10 in the opener of the three-game series. Justin Turner and Davis Schneider hit solo homers for the Jays. Nick Pivetta of Victoria, B-C, threw seven effective innings to post the win. Boston has won six of its last eight games.
- Billed as MLB’s Main Event this week, the New York Yankees are set to host the Baltimore Orioles for three games, starting tonight. The two clubs have opened up a big gap in the rest of the American League East. With only the division champion eligible to earn a post-season first-round bye, this could be the start of a compelling AL East title race. The 50-and-24 Yankees have the best record in baseball, while the 47-24 Orioles are third overall.

The Boston Celtics won their record-breaking 18th NBA title on Monday night with a 106-88 win over the visiting Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics won the best-of-seven championship series 4-1. Jayson Tatum had 31 points and 11 assists for the Celtics, who broke a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most titles. Jaylen Brown added 21 points and was voted the NBA Finals MVP. Luka Doncic finished with 28 points for Dallas.

The Florida Panthers have a second chance tonight to hoist the Stanley Cup when they welcome the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the best-of-seven final. The Panthers, who lead the championship series 3-1, were crushed 8-1 on Saturday in Edmonton in the first elimination game for the Oilers. Should a sixth game be necessary, it will be played Friday night in the Alberta capital.

Kansas lawmakers, hoping to lure the Kansas City Chiefs from Missouri, are narrowing their proposal for encouraging the Super Bowl champs to build a new stadium and linking the proposal to a plan for broad tax cuts. The legislature expected to consider the stadium proposal during a special session set to convene today. The measure would allow the state to issue bonds to help the Chiefs and MLB’s Kansas City Royals finance new stadiums in Kansas.
