NBA TV CANADA TO BROADCAST BCLA TOURNAMENT FROM CALGARY

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Sunday that NBA TV Canada will nationally televise both games featuring the CEBL’s Edmonton Stingers during the upcoming third window of group stage play in the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) in Calgary, Alberta. Edmonton will host Cangrejeros of Puerto Rico at 7:30 p.m. Mountain time Monday and Real Esteli of Nicaragua at 7:30 p.m. Mountain time Wednesday. Both games will take place at WinSport Arena in Calgary.

“The BCLA’s are some of the best basketball played outside of the NBA. Hosting these games in Calgary and televising them across Canada is an exciting opportunity for the CEBL and for basketball fans from coast to coast,” said Mike Morreale, commissioner and chief executive officer of the CEBL. “Led by former NBA players, Cangrejeros is one of the stronger teams internationally. Real Esteli is a veteran team that has also has a tradition as a powerhouse on the global stage, including finishing as runner-up in last year’s BCLA’s. We’ve put together a strong roster of CEBL players to represent the Stingers and our league for the first time in the best continental league in the Americas.”

Owned primarily and operated by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., NBA TV Canada broadcasts programming focused on the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Toronto Raptors. Content also includes the NBA G League, NBA Summer League, and the WNBA. The national channel broadcasts NBA games sourced from NBA TV and ESPN, and NBA TV series and studio programs.

The Stingers are representing the CEBL by virtue of having won the 2021 CEBL Championship. They are currently 1-3 in pool play, along with Real Esteli. Cangrejeros is 4-0. Edmonton will need to win at least one game and hope Real Esteli loses both games in Calgary to advance to the BCLA’s Final 8 playoffs, scheduled for early-April. Real Esteli and Cangrejeros square off at WinSport Arena at 7:30 p.m. local time Tuesday.
