NO RIELLY FOR CANADA

TORONTO – The Maple Leafs have announced that Morgan Rielly will not be playing in the world junior championship for Canada.

It was considered unlikely that Rielly would be loaned to Canada for the tournament, which begins Dec. 26 in Malmo, Sweden, though a stretch of three straight games in the press box made it something of a debate.

The defenceman has appeared in five straight games since then, and Toronto ended the speculation by confirming the 19-year-old will be sticking around.

Rielly has a goal and nine assists in 27 games this season. He was the No. 5 pick in the 2012 draft and made the team out of training camp.

Had he been loaned to Team Canada, Rielly was considered a candidate to be team captain.

How ridiculous. Give the kid a chance to win a medal for Canada because he sure won't win anything with the Leafs this year or for years to come , because they haven't got anything to build on.

Morgan Rielly 100% would want to stay in the NHL. Some of you on here are so off base it's crazy.

Talk about nothing to build on, at least he plays for the Leafs and not the Flames or Oilers!

choices, choice, choices

go play in the WJHC and maybe win a gold medal

stay in the NHL, and make some real gold (cash)

The choice is simple; stay in the NHL and GET PAID!!!

The morons who suggest the kid wouldn't want win a gold medal with the Canadian team are full of crap. With Sutter he would actually get some decent coaching. I think the World Juniors are treated pretty first class. It's the same morons who will boo hoo if the Canadian don't win gold. Do like the Wild did and give our best kids a chance to win gold. Is it the best junior aged kids or the best available to the team. Total idiots.

To all those who say it is wrong for Reilly to stay in Toronto, do you think the Toronto Maple Leafs really care about Team Canada? No, they care about the Toronto Maple Leafs and working towards their own 'gold' medal. Why would you send someone away for up to three weeks, thereby weakening your team?
The only reason the Wild loaned Matt Dumba was because Matt Dumba wasn't playing in Minnesota, so actually playing would be much better for him and his development than watching from the press box.
