PRESEASON: ESKIMOS 31 ROUGHRIDERS 24

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. – Derel Walker caught a 36-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter as the Edmonton Eskimos rallied to beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 31-24 on Saturday in Canadian Football League pre-season action.

Justin Goltz threw the pass to Walker and finished the night 2 for 3 for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Darian Durant started behind centre for Saskatchewan for the first time since injuring his elbow last season. He completed 4 of 8 passes for 42 yards while playing all but one series in the first quarter.

Free-agent signing Kevin Glenn would replace Durant and threw for 73 yards while completing eight passes and a touchdown.

The Eskimos took a 14-11 lead into halftime.

Holy crap … put the flags away and let the game flow.

CFL game isn't worth watching like this.

Flags should fly when there are infractions that will occur in the regular season. If the offensive line doesn't improve, we better keep all the Qbs that we have in camp

Dunigan and Miller would be better broadcasting Lawn Bowling than football.

I wonder, with the rule change for defenders, if the notion of having a running game is at an end. The CFL will be a 90% passing offense. If your QB is good, you either complete the pass or the D gets a penalty.

I know my wife and daughters will hate me, but I think that the Riders need to release Tino now! Brett Smith has what it takes and can develop into the future second string QB when Kevin Glen decides to hang up his cleats. Smith has earned his spot by his performance and will benefit from the extra reps.

$100 a ticket for a pre-season game is unreal – it would have been something to do when the boom was on, but with the crisis in the oil industry it seems a tad too high.

This 4th quarter is painful. We've got no depth.

So sad to see Tino regress in such dramatic fashion.

Time to move forward with Brett Smith as #3. Smith is almost 4 years younger than Tino. (Smith has just turned 23 years old). He has a lot of talent to build upon and can be the quarterback the Riders can develop behind Durant for the future.

I must be a bit of a traditionalist because I don't like any of the rule changes. Way too many flags. Hopefully either the teams figure out how to play within the rules or the rules are changed.
Who wants to see a flag on every play? Not Me. Jeez let them play already.
Maybe I am mistaken but wouldn't an effective threat of running slow down the pass rush? Just sayin'
Was EE playing their top defense against our third string O-line or did it just look that way?

Tino: I feel sorry for him. He looks like he tries hard and works hard, but it's just not working out on the riders. I bet he will flourish in the future, but it's not happening now nor will it happen with the riders. It's bad blood now. He will be happier else where and we will all be relieved when he moves on and we can move forward. It's just not working.

Give Tino another chance, the same plays that Brett got and same squad and let him open 3rd quarter, then we can see. In defense, all EE did was blitz all 4 th quarter and Sask O line were hiway pilons.

All you mouthbreathers were on TSN's case for not showing football. That is what you wanted to see? Terrible! How many penalties were there? What a bad showcase for the game! I would rather watch womens soccer at its highest calibre than what I watched tonight.

Oh yeah, Tino can catch the first flight out of Saskatoon back to wherever he is from because he is DONE!

Post on the womans soccer blogs too, why do people have to be so ignorant, so what if some of us wanted to watch the game i enjoyed it. Brett smith looked good thats nice to see. And what makes us mouthbreathers for wanting to watch a footbaĺl game

From what I saw in the 4th qtr, it did look like Coach Jones still had his starting D in the game against the Riders 2nd and 3rd stringers.. and I started thinking.. Jones does realize this is a Pre season game right? This one means diddly squat! The Riders were focusing on evaluating their back ups and the Eskimos were playing their starting D and wanting the win! Meh!.. We'll get em when it counts! GO RIDERS!!

Preseason or not, the game is about winning, Riders should have brought the blitz on just like EE, hard to evaluate players when QB is smothered all night long. Offensive line did not look good, defensive line looked average, special teams was below average. Messam looked slow, highlight for me was Early and the new receivers.

Agree with comments earlier: Tino probably will be released – O-Line could be a liability and I think Jamel Richardson and Taj Smith will not make this team .

Chamblin should be playing to win… Look at EE, flushing Riders QB , mesmerizing Riders offensive line, the Eskimos then have a winning mentality. Corey is being out schooled by his master AGAIN…

I heard Coach Chamblin say before the game that Chris Jones would bring the heat all game long, I believe he wanted to see how his team handled it. Unfortunately Tino had the fourth quarter to show his talents and Edmonton stole that quarter. That being said he's been here long enough he should be the clean up quarterback that can finish off games. He didn't do it. One more chance to prove he belongs but Smith looked good! Hopefully they took this one for what it was and next week things are a bit more polished. Absolutely hate the… Read more »
