OCHOCINCO POISED TO JOIN CFL

Montreal, April 12, 2014 – Montreal Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp issued the following statement regarding receiver Chad Johnson on Saturday:

“We do expect to meet with Chad Johnson and work him out in Vero Beach, FL this week. Talks did take place and have escalated over the last week.”

_______________________

From ESPN.com:

Johnson, 36, was released by the Miami Dolphins in August 2012 after the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver was arrested for allegedly head-butting his then-wife, Evelyn Lozada.

In June, Johnson was released from jail after serving a week of a 30-day term for a probation violation.

The flamboyant player formerly known as Chad Ochocinco has not landed with another team since being cut by Miami, despite his continued attempt to resurrect his NFL career. He had seven 1,000-yard seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and also was a member of the New England Patriots team that reached Super Bowl XLVI following the 2011 season.

The Alouettes went 8-10 last season and are seeking their first Grey Cup since 2010, when they won their second consecutive championship.

This signing won't sit well with Tom Higgins – there will be problems in the locker room if Johnson ends up in MTL. Not a good signing…..

What would they be looking for with Johnson? Leadership? Skill set? Youth? He doesn't have any of this. Perfect…
Go Riders!

They say any publicity is good publicity, this is nothing more than that after a tough year (by Allouettes standards)

Perhaps the stumps should sign him. They newbie always has to supply the "turnovers".

If this story had appeared on April 1st I would have found it
more believable.

If he can play and not be a bone head I'm all for it. If he is a bone head or diva he will be on the waiver wire. Simply make plays an be a teammate and he will be on the team. All I want from a player and I think Montreal feels the same way

To anonymous, why would Rider receivers worry about being able to hold Ohchocino's jock strap? He doesn"t need one if he's the type of person who head butts women

Rider receivers don’t need to worry about holding his jock. Johnson’s ex-wife took his balls

Jim Popp will not be the General Manager by Labour Day guaranteed. There is an outside chance he will not be the General Manager when Training Camp begins.

Not without precedent.

This is still the same team that brought Lawrence Phillips and his mile-long criminal record to the CFL.
