OTTAWA LOSES TO EDMONTON. AGAIN.

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Eskimos won’t have to give up any form of compensation to the Ottawa Redblacks for hiring Jason Maas as their head coach.

In a statement released by the Eskimos on Friday, the team says that they were informed of CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge’s decision that Ottawa would not be compensated for losing Maas to the Eskimos.

Maas was announced in December as Edmonton’s new head coach after spending the 2015 season as Ottawa’s offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach, which led to the Redblacks requesting compensation for Maas leaving.

“The Edmonton Eskimos consider this matter resolved and will not comment further at this time,” the team said.

Maas spent nine years as a quarterback with the Eskimos, 2000-05 and 2008-2010, helping them to Grey Cup wins in 2002 and 2005, and was Edmonton’s outstanding player in 2001 and 2004. He retired in 2011 and served as quarterbacks and receivers coach for the Toronto Argonauts from 2012 to ’14 before joining Ottawa.

He was hired by Edmonton to replace Chris Jones, who left to become vice-president of football operations, general manager and head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Eskimos beat the Redblacks 26-20 in November for the 2015 Grey Cup.

Good decision, good precedent! Coaches should be able to promote within the CFL without teams having to pay $. It is healthy for the CFL overall if within its small army of coaching assistants they can aspire to and achieve a head coach position and from there, if possible, a GM position.

Good for the EE
Ottawa was allowed to pillage every CFL team for good players not but 2 years earlier.
Not to mention they hired positional coaches away from other teams still under contract when they were starting the 2014 season.
So why do they think they are above every other team and are deserved compensation.
It's stuff like this that makes me hope they choke this year.

You obviously read with hatred in your mind. The quotes I read above are happy for the EE.
They are also upset ( not hating ) Ottawa for bringing such foolishness to the league. Since Ottawa's inception they feel they are deserved more privilege than any other CFL team. The league has ruled and told them they are not!
Probably time to apologize for negative comments directed at a whole football fan base. When a couple comments were perfectly rational.

Well of course the Commish was going to rule in Edmonton's favor, you can't hold coaches back from getting a promotion that would sink the CFL as any decent coach would go to the NCAA of AFL for less money, but easier movement.
