PADDOCK ON THE PATS

PADDOCK (DEFINITION):  A small field or enclosure where horses are kept or exercised.

Regina Pats Head Coach and Sr. V.P. of Hockey Operations John Paddock met with the media to discuss his team’s first round sweep of Swift Current and pending second round match-up with Brandon.  Here are his comments:

ON THE HILSENDAGER 3-GAME SUSPENSION

JP: Ya, I don’t have any comment on that.

HOW DOES THAT IMPACT ROUND 2?

JP:  He’s one of our top D.  So I’m not going to comment on this at all.

DO THE THREE GAMES INCLUDE TIME SERVED?

JP: ….

HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS BREAK?

JP:  I don’t know.  It’s the same for both teams.  Both teams finished on the same date.  It’ll be whatever we make it.  It gives us time to prepare.  I don’t think it’ll make any difference.  I wouldn’t mind playing on Saturday because we’re playing good.  But it’s good.  As I heard Joel Quenneville say, “rest is a weapon”.

YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE WHEAT KINGS?

JP:  This is an all-together different animal.  All I’m going to say is they’ve been ranked in the top five or six in the country for the last six months.  That tells you all you need to know about it.

YOUR PLAYERS’ THOUGHTS ON BEING UNDERDOGS?

JP:  Our players … they may hear it but they don’t believe it.  They’re more than willing to just go out and play, and play our game and let the chips fall.  I don’t think they’re feeling any pressure.  They just go out and play.  They’re being led by guys who are on a mission.  Jake Leschyshyn, I don’t think he realizes where he is.  Guys like Rykr Cole and Smith and Kroeker, they just go out and play.

THE PRESSURE IS ALL ON BRANDON…

JP:  You try to twist things any way you want them to be.  All the stats that are in sports now, you can make them read whatever you want them to read.  So ya, I think so.  Brandon, to some extent, has their Memorial Cup tickets booked already.

DID YOU GET BRANDON’S ATTENTION WITH THE SWEEP?

JP:  No, not necessarily.  I talk to Kelly McCrimmon fairly regular.  I’m not gonna say he’d be surprised by a sweep but I can tell you that he thought we’d beat Swift Current.  So I don’t think so.

**The series opens Friday, April 10 with Game 1 in Brandon on 620 CKRM.

Hey Rod, the shaw broadcasts in BC are in HD, so has nothing to do with technology… just needs to be put on a HD channel. Here it is on the regular definition shaw channel and another on the HD channel.

I'd hate to see Jeff Odgers in HD. Especially just before bed. Lol!

Sure like Paddock – very good coach and the challenge will be to keep him in Regina. Hopefully he stays long enough to complete what he has started. Future is very bright for the PATS…. would also like to acknolege Chad Lang – he is responsible for some of these young Players currently on the roster…..

Is it Chad Lang or Dale McMullin?

At the end of the day, Chad brought McMullin in so you could say both have had a role in the youth you are seeing today.

Its too bad he was shoved out for whatever reason.

He should go to Saskatoon, because that team needs some help bigtime.

I think it will take the Blades 3-4 years to recover from the situation left by previous management.

It will be interesting to see what affect Jesse Gabrielle has. He was a cancer in Brandon and his teammates couldn't stand him. It will be interesting to see if they ignore him or react to his antics.

Anybody know if there is a fan bus going friday. If so it would be nice to have the option to stay the night and come home on fan bus Saturday. But not sure if the organizers would want to do it. Might be a kinda a hassle, but if they do it im in. Will be a good series I think. Probably goes 6 or 7. Went to Swift for game 4, Pats played a really nice game but only contenders left to play now, all the pretenders are gone now. Should be a good test for the Pats… Read more »

I don't think Gabrielle was the problem in Brandon, I heard it was his dad.

Paddock is a very loyal guy he isn't going anywhere, he may not be out Head Coach for his entire contract but he will be our GM for the entire contract length. He had said earlier in the year he was looking forward to doing some farm work again and being in junior hockey will allow him to do that again. Pro teams are not looking for 60+ year old coaches anymore they want youth as the game is changing. Plus Paddock wants to give back and what better way then junior hockey. This series I think will be closer… Read more »
