PARKER STICKS WITH THE ALS
The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday that import cornerback Billy Parker has agreed to a new two-year deal with the club.
Parker (6’0″, 195 lbs.) is coming off a career season in 2013, having been named a CFL East Division All-Star after helping the Alouettes defence lead the league in the majority of its defensive categories.
“Billy is a true leader, on the field and in the locker room. A voice of wisdom, he offers an intelligent perspective to the game. He is Mr. Consistent,” said Alouettes General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp. “He has always made his biggest plays in the biggest games. Billy offers our team a player type coach on the field, with a calming approach.”
Last year the 32-year-old racked up a personal best 57 defensive tackles — good for third among Alouettes — while also batting down five passes, forcing a fumble, and recording an interception.
Parker, a native of Mechanicsville, VA has played five seasons in the CFL, all with the Alouettes, amassing 241 defensive tackles over that span, in addition to nine interceptions and a pair of back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 2009 and 2010.
Congratulations and good luck Billy Parker. Great signing by the Montreal Alouettes oorganization. Grey Cup experience 2009-10, solid player.
Go Alouettes 2014.
