PAT C’S OUT AT MAC’S

The Regina Pat Canadians were eliminated from the Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary with a 6-3 quarterfinal loss to Switzerland on New Year’s Eve.

Regina penalties and Switzerland’s highly-skilled power play highlighted the matchup. The Swiss capitalized early in the game when Yves Kohler scored a power play marker at 2:28 into the first period. After taking a 4-1 lead on three power play goals into the third period, the Swiss scored another power play goal three minutes into the third and then held the fort as Regina replied with two goals by Cohen Yano and Adam Edmands in the final frame.

With a minute left in the game and the Swiss leading 5-3, Regina pulled goalie Cameron Pateman for an extra attacker but Swiss captain Fabian Haberstich scored an empty net goal with 22 seconds remaining to close out the match.

Defenseman Roger Karrer led the Swiss with a stellar four-point effort, netting a goal and two assists on the power play. Haberstich also contributed three assists on the power play.

Regina forwards Adam Edmands and Tyler Adams scored two points apiece. The Swiss outshot Regina by a 2 to 1 margin: 28 to 13. Dominik Diem (Switzerland) and Edmands (Regina) were selected players of the game.
