THE WEEK THAT WAS
Last week the Pats opened the WHL Pre-Season with the Extreme Hockey Pre-Season Tournament.  It was the first time the Pats hosted a pre-season tournament with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince Albert Raiders, Calgary Hitmen and Lethbridge Hurricanes all attending.

The Blue and White finished the tournament with an undefeated record through three games.  Opening the tournament Thursday against the Warriors, the Pats rolled to a 9-1 victory on the strength of four point efforts from Connor Gay and Sam Steel.

Friday’s contest against Calgary was much tighter.  The Pats jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Hitmen scored five times in the middle frame to take a 5-3 advantage to the third.  A pair of quick goals from the hosts got the teams even before the Pats eventually prevailed 6-5.

The tournament finale had the Pats and Hurricanes trading goals until the Pats finally picked up some insurance late in the third en route to a 5-2 win.  Sam Steel led the tournament in scoring with 7 points (4G, 3A) in his two games of action.

As both the NHL and WHL seasons approach it’s time for players to head to their professional training camps.  Chandler Stephenson, Morgan Klimchuk, Kyle Burroughs and Dryden Hunt will all depart from the Pats to attend prospect tournaments, rookie camps and full training camps.  Stephenson has his eyes set on playing in the NHL or AHL this season while Klimchuk looks to crack the Calgary Flames roster.  Burroughs (New York Islanders) and Hunt (Carolina Hurricanes) are hoping to earn themselves entry level contracts with good showings.

Man I don't know how you can ignore Poteau. He was their biggest and best young rearguard. It's a head scratcher for sure.
