PATS 2 WHEAT KINGS 1 (OT)
BRANDON — Austin Wagner’s 3-on-3 goal 43 seconds into overtime was the winner Friday night as the Regina Pats upset the Wheat Kings 2-1 at Westman Place. The game was televised across Saskatchewan on Access.
In a wildly entertaining game reminiscent of the WHL from 20 years ago, the Pats led 1-0 just 1:06 into the contest on a powerplay goal by Connor Hobbs (set up by Sam Steel and Adam Brooks).
The score remained that way for almost the entire game but the match was highlighted by rock ’em, sock ’em hits and fights keeping the nearly soldout crowd on the edge of their seats.
Rookie Pats goalie Jordan Hollett was 1:29 away from his first career shutout but the Wheat Kings’ Reid Duke spoiled the bid with the extra attacker.
The teams each had just one shot on goal in the OT session but it was the Pats who made theirs count.
With the win, the Pats improved to 4-3-1 on their nine-game rodeo trip which concludes Saturday night in Moose Jaw (7 pm in 620 CKRM).
NOTES: The Wheat Kings outshot the Pats 41-31 … Regina was 1/5 on the powerplay and 3/3 killing penalties … Hollett was the 1st star, Brandon goalie Jordan Papirny was #2 and Wagner #3 … The victory improved the Pats’ record to 14-11-2.

What else was going on in Brandon that all the fans couldn't be there? Little bit of a scary site for the club, is this a usual size crowd for the Wheaties this year?
Nice to see the boys pull out a victory against one of the better clubs in Canada
Good call on the game last night Rod. I really enjoyed the telecast. You were pretty excited on the OT winner.
He didn't get to call many Ws in Brandon as the PBP voice yrs ago. I would of been Ecstatic too!

Well there was the Good as Gold Cattle sale going on at the same time so that would have cut into the crowd numbers! 🙂
The number of empty seats in the photo reminds me of some of stadiums we see on TV at NFL games lately.
The last two games in Brandon have ended up 2-1 with a win each. It's good to see that the Pats can at least play a competitive game with the WK's. It make sit more interesting for both sets of fans. I think before he's done Hollett will be a star goalie in the WHL. Nice to see Williams back and now lets hope he can stay healthy the rest of the way cause he's earned it.
What a great team win
