REGINA — The Regina Pats concluded a seven game homestand in fine style, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Kootenay Ice in the Brandt Centre Wednesday evening.

The game was delayed 30 minutes as the Ice were trapped in a snowstorm on the TransCanada between Regina and Moose Jaw.

The Pats took advantage, jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Connor Gary and Braden Christopher. Kootenay’s Jagger Dirk got the visitors on the board at 12:51 on the powerplay to make it 2-1 after one.

The teams exchanged goals in the second with Regina’s Dyson Stevenson lighting the lamp for a 3-1 lead before Luke Philp of the Ice cut the margin back to a goal.

There was no scoring in the third and the Pats skated off with the win while outshooting Kootenay 31-29.

Regina goalie Daniel Wapple was named the game’s #1 star with 29 saves. Mackenzie Skapski took the loss at the other end. Regina was 0/1 on the man advantage and 3/4 killing penalties.

The Pats (29-22-5) concluded the homestand at an impressive 5-2-0 and now visit P.A. on Friday before returning to host Swift Current on Saturday. Both games can be heard on 620 CKRM.

Too bad the weather was bad and more folks couldn't make it out as this was one of the best games of the season. Pats forechecking was unbelievable for 60 minutes. A well deserved victory. Need more games like this to move on up!
