Regina, SK– On Friday night, the Victoria Royals paid a visit to the Brandt Centre to face the Regina Pats carrying a seven-game win streak and a 14-game point streak.  You could call it the “Royal Rumble”!

The Royals gave Coleman Vollrath the start in goal, while the Pats countered with Daniel Wapple.

Chandler Stephenson opened the scoring for the home team 2:06 into the second period before Regina’s Colby Williams made it 2-0 for the Pats on a powerplay just 2:54 later. Dmitry Sinistyn increased Regina’s lead to three at the 9:31 mark of the middle frame. Victoria looked to respond with another two-man advantage, but once again were unable to solve Wapple. Tempers flared as the buzzer sounded and the Royals trailed 3-0 at the second intermission.

Brandon Magee got the Royals on the board with a powerplay marker 4:55 into the third period. Victoria pressed to cut into the deficit as they threw a flurry of chances at the Regina netminder and eventually solved Wapple again when Austin Carroll struck with 5:46 left in the third period.

Victoria pulled Vollrath for the extra attacker with just over one minute left in regulation, but were unable to force overtime as a seven-game win streak come to an end.

Game over: Pats 3 Royals 2.

Victoria went 1/6 on the powerplay, while Regina went 1/4. The Royals outshot the Pats 33-27.

The regulation loss marked the first in 15 games for the Royals after going on an impressive 12-0-1-1 run, a franchise record. Victoria also saw their franchise record-setting nine-game road win streak and franchise record-tying seven-game win streak come to a close on Friday night.

The Pats host Calgary Saturday evening at 7:00 (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

Parker owns the team, they play boring hockey, they lose every year, and I might miss some rider news if I go. That's my reasons for not going

Ya, we know, you've told us many times. You have a personal vendetta against the Parker's. Go away.

They play boring hockey???? Have you been to a game – they play the farthest thing from boring hockey. Get your head out of your ass and stop posting stupid comments that you have no idea what your talking about. Pats are getting hot at the right time – have a goalie in Wapple that can steal them games – I can see them going on a nice run in the playoffs here.

Obviously not a hockey fan just a rider fan…so be it…but Pats brand of hockey is not at all boring this year and who cares who owns the damn team! You don't go to watch the owner. I would say you are the loser on this one :"))

Pats played a good game even though they were missing two very big cogs. They still need to work on these little 8-10 minute let downs. Without Wapple they lose this game. They will need a complete 60 tonight against Calgary. Can anyone tell me why this guy Montsion is allowed to officiate Pats games? He is evidently out of Manitoba and a Pat killer plain and simple. This is the guy that called the phantom clipping call on Stevenson two years ago and changed the playoff series with MJ. Most every game the Pats play with him involved, they… Read more »

If you mean the third period, it wasn't a let down Victoria is a damn good team and decided to start playing and took it to us. Good on us for weathering the storm and picking up the two points.

Actually it was a letdown and if you had been at the game you would have seen it. Only after they started "playing again" were they able to whether the storm. Both the the asst coach and Stephenson said as much on the post game show. Since they seem to know what their talking about I'll go with those two people.

What a game! Victoria was throwing some of the heaviest body checks I've seen in years. Would not want to play them in a 7 game series they'd punish you. Like I said, if you weren't at the game you need your head examined.

The Pats had about a 5 to 7 minute letdown but it didn't cost them the game….after Victoria got there 2nd goal with under 5mins left the Pats took over for the next 3mins of play all in Victoria's end…we bent but didn't break that's what good teams do, were not an elite team by any means but we are a good team. I had a great laugh at the comment above about boring hockey, this year has been the most entertaining hockey since Derkatch coached us with his offensive brand of hockey (even though his style didn't win games)… Read more »
