REGINA — Dyson Stevenson’s 27th goal of the year, on the powerplay, at 6:55 of the second period was the winner as the Regina Pats blanked the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-0 on a Family Day matinee Monday afternoon in the Brandt Centre.

After a scoreless opening frame, Stevenson beat Brandon goalie Jordan Papirny Stevenson to open the scoring then added his 28th of the year later in the frame.  Teammate Carter Hansen potted his eighth giving Regina a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Pats’ Morgan Klimchuk netted his 20th of the season with 1:05 remaining in regulation to put the game away.  Daniel Wapple recorded the shutout for the Pats, making 23 saves.  Regina outshot the Wheaties 39-23 while going 1/8 on the powerplay and 5/5 killing penalties.  The attendance was 3947.  With the loss, Brandon is winless in six games.

Regina (31-22-6) opened a two point lead on Swift Current for first place in the WHL’s East Division with 13 games to go.  The Pats visit Saskatoon Wednesday evening at 7:00 on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

Well there were 400 minor league hockey kids around me making noise the whole game. They had a good time.

A lot of noise after the Waltz/Gay penalty calls. Missed the game and had to listen to it, and the crowd was drowning out Phil and Fink. I don't listen to a lot of home games, as I'm a season ticket holder, but that seemed out of the ordinary. The two of them even commented on how loud it was at that point.

Sounded like a good win otherwise. Now hopefully the Pats can complete the eight game sweep of the Blades in S'toon on Wednesday.

Biggest ELBOWing penalty I've seen in my life and NO penalty call. Missed by 4 officials…… WOW!!! Doesn't look good for Dryden Hunt either. Hopefully some supplemental discipline arises from this. Not only for the player but also for the officials involved. Pathetic incident!

Most of the noise was the anger being directed at the two goofs masquerading as referees. Hunt was hit with a cheap head shot and went down in a lot of trouble. It looked like another serious concussion as a result of the hit. Gay stepped up for Hunt and the stripes ended up giving the Pats Gay the instigator and misconduct. Our guy gets a head shot and helped off, and they get a PP. The fans were irate and they let the officials know they had done a crappy job. It got the hometown blood boiling.
