Regina, SK – The Regina Pats (23-22-3-4) beat the Prince George Cougars (31-21-2-1) 5-3 at the Brandt Centre before over 5000 fans on Saturday night. The win gave the Pats back-to-back weekend home wins to solidy their hold on a playoff spot with just over a month to go in the regular season.
Game Story
The only meeting of the season between the Regina Pats and Prince George Cougars was a physical affair, evidenced by 45 penalties in the game. In the end, it was the Regina Pats who came out victorious, 5-3. This is the first time the Pats have won back-to-back games this season.
The contest marked the return of Jesse Gabrielle to the Brandt Centre who was dealt to Prince George in the off-season for Lane Zablocki. It was Gabrielle who opened the scoring late in the first when he streaked in on the left side beating defenceman James Hilsendager to the net, slipping the puck past Tyler Brown on the stick side.. Regina would get on the board in the second thanks to Sam Steel who found himself at the corner of the Cougars net, beating Prince George’s Nick McBride for the power play goal. The visitors would add two more in the period, which included 12 penalties between the two teams. Regina would even things up late in the frame when Cole Sanford would notch his 25th of the season. Before the goal could even be announced, Jared McAmmond beat McBride glove side to tie the game up.
With three and half minutes left in the third, the Pats Rykr Cole broke the deadlock to pull ahead. Cole Sanford would seal the deal, with an unassisted, empty netter to preserve the victory. The leading scorer in the WHL, Pats Forward Adam Brooks, added three assists on the night to bring his season points total to 81.

What’s Next?
The Regina Pats get five days off before their next game action when they travel to Prince Albert in a Friday night affair, against the Raiders. The game will be broadcast live on Access Communications at 7 p.m., and heard on Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM beginning at 6:35 p.m. This will be the first of three games in four days for the club who will host Brandon on Saturday, then travel to Swift Current for a Family Day matinee. That was one of the gutsiest performances by the Pats in a long long time. Cougars tried to bully but boys never gave in to thier thug tactics. Great tending by Brown again; just another normal game 3 point game for Brooksy; and Luke Smith was on a mission after the 1st period when one of the Cougs did something to rile him up. Good for JP to put him out on the ice in the last minute to let him get it out of his system :))
Overall a great 4 pt weekend!
One of the best Pats games I've seen in the last few years. Great effort by the Pats. Steel was dominate all night and brooks continues to lead this team night in and night out. Sanford looked like he got the monkey off his back. Hopefully Wagner isn't out long term. Great effort boys.
Great to see Adam Brooks number 1 in entire WHL scoring. Former Pat Dryden Hunt #2 with Warriors and another former Pat Jesse Gabrielle with PG top in WHL goals scored.
It seems that Gabrielle has matured and is focused on playing hockey. Even more impressive when you consider he is playing for a team with a Reggie Dunlop approach.
The head referee Byblow lost control of the game in the first period by allowing PG to get away with their stick antics. He was never able to gain control. Paddock did a good job keeping a lid on things that he couldn't. The slash on Wagner was a chicken s–t play and should be looked at by the League. I hope the Pats seek supplemental. Broken wrist i hear.
That was an old style,classic game!! Loved every minute of it. was hoping for a big donny brook but it was one of the best games I've seen in the last 10 years and I go to every game..
A very gutsy win, a gutsy comeback, the team unity last night was awesome, boys sticking up for each other. Steel played his best 2 games of the year the last 2 nights. Great to see.

That was the best Pats game that I have even been to. Excellent effort by the Pats. The last minute took about seven minutes to play due to all the "extra-curricular" activities. The best part was in the 3rd period when Luke Smith hyped up the crowd on his way to the locker room (he got kicked out). Electric atmosphere. Hope this momentum carries the Pats to the playoffs!!!
what a dirty team PG was. They have 400 penalty minuets more than the 2nd most penalized WHL team. Clearly the coaches mandate to have a filthy dirty team.
