Moose Jaw, SK – The Regina Pats (34-27-3-5) and Moose Jaw Warriors (34-26-3-5) met in the final Trans-Canada Clash game of the regular season Saturday night at Mosaic Place. The Pats rolled to a 5-1 win to sweep the home-and-home series and move within a point of the Warriors for third in the East Division
Game Story
The Pats picked up where they left off Friday night, outshooting the Warriors 18-9 in the first period. Special teams favoured the Pats as they opened the scoring on a Jared Freadrich powerplay goal 7:08 into the frame. Cole Sanford followed up with his 41st of the season, also on the powerplay, at the 11:40 mark. In the Pats goal, Jordan Hollett kept the Warriors off the board making a few big-time stops among the nine saves he made in the period.
Regina’s penalty kill impressed early with three great scoring chances to open the frame. The best came off the stick of Adam Brooks, but his shot hit the post and stayed out of the Warriors goal. Moose Jaw hit a post of their own when Ryan Gardiner pounded a shot off the metal behind Hollett. That was as close as either team came to tallying in a scoreless period.
It only took 21 seconds for the Pats to break through in the third period. Lane Zablocki skated onto a loose puck to create a two-on-oh with Austin Wagner, put the puck on his tape and Wagner potted the Pats’ third goal. Across the midway point of the third, Adam Brooks slid a pass out front for Zablocki and he buried a shot to the top part of the net to give Regina a 4-0 lead. The Warriors broke up Jordan Hollett’s shutout bid with less than five minutes left. With a four-on-three powerplay and Zach Sawchenko on the bench for a two-man advantage, Noah Gregor put a cross-ice pass on the stick of Brayden Point and he potted the only Moose Jaw goal of the game. With the net empty again, Wagner broke out of his own zone and gave the puck to Brooks who restored the four goal lead and left the score at a 5-1 count.

Most dominating win of the year by the Pats! Warriors were humiliated. Pats will get 3rd this week and on to the Raiders. Raiders are soft and no question Pats win in first round. Go Pats Go!
Are the playoff seeds based on division in first round? So, if we finish 3rd we're playing PA in round 1? I was thinking it was based off 1-8 and if we got 6th, we'd play Red Deer.
Team with most points of the two conference winners play 2nd wild card. Other conference winner plays 1st wild card. Then the 2nd & 3rd place team of each conference plays each other.
Oops. Then the 2nd & 3rd of each division play each other.
That point we gave them Friday night will likely be the killer.

I was actually surprised the Pats came away with such an "apparent" easy victory at Mosaic Place last night. The Warriors seemed tired or something, although Pats did pour it on right out of the gate and Hollett did his job when needed. Going to need that kind of Teamwork throughout the playoffs. A week or so ago a blogger on here lamented how Zabloski should not be on the Brooks line because he was too young, too small and Adam Berg deserved to be slotted in upon his return from injury. Zabloski has done good no doubt. However as was noted by Paddock that he is playing with Brooks so he should be. Now I suspect his production would not have been the same had he been on the third line as opposed to the first. I wouldn't read too much into that. I think Berg would have every reason to be ticked off coming back and not even getting onto the second line where Richards hasn't been great. Berg is getting the treatment he deserves. Paddock is the boss and I put all my trust in him to do the right things.
When Berg came back, he worked himself back on to the top line as he looked great on the lower lines, but then once he got there, was not the same player he was before. Zablocki got a chance and has been very very good. Lane brings a bit more skill to the table than Berg, with the same physical presence and has really shown how dangerous he can be and the future he has in this league.
