PATS 6 REBELS 3, RED DEER LEADS 2-1

Keith Hershmiller Photography

A three-goal third period sparked the Regina Pats to a 6-3 home triumph over Red Deer Tuesday evening, cutting the Rebels’ lead in the second round WHL Playoff series to 2-1.

Coming home facing an 0-2 deficit in the best-of-seven affair, the Pats found themselves tied 1-1 after 20 minutes in Game 3 and tied 3-3 going to the third.  Jake Lecyshyn (powerplay), Sam Steel and Lane Zablocki scored for Regina in the opening 40 minutes.

Regina turned it on in the third, erupting for three unanswered goals from Connor Hobbs (powerplay), Rykr Cole and Austin Wagner (shorthanded).  Hobbs’ and Cole’s goals came just :12 seconds apart midway through the frame.  Regina outshot the Rebels 14-8 over the final 20 minutes and are now very much alive in this series.

The Pats outshot the Rebels 40-28 in the game and goaltender Tyler Brown earned the victory making 25 saves.  Trevor Martin took the loss for the Rebels, turning aside 34 pucks.  Jake DeBrusk, Michael Spacek and Nelson Nogier scored for the losing side.

Regina was 2/7 on the powerplay and 2/3 killing penalties.

The attendance was 6247.

The Pats look to even the series at 2-2 Wednesday evening in Game 4 in a 7:00 faceoff on 620 CKRM.  Tickets are available at the Brandt Centre box office or www.ticketmaster.ca.

620 CKRM will be broadcasting the SportsCage live from the Brandt Centre beginning at 4:00 pm on Wednesday.

Game 5 goes Friday in Red Deer in a 7:00 pm and I’ll have the television call on Access 7.

One of the better games I've seen in quite some time at the Brandt Center. Red Deer turned into a bunch of clowns and started with the cheap shots after the 5th goal, but what can you do.

Can't wait for tomorrow

That was an exciting win…had to watch on WHLive in Mesquite but was hoarse after the game. Heard it was great crowd…I will be in the stands tomorrow night! Great character shown by the Pats tonight…follow the plan laid out by the Coaches and good will come of it. The youngster Jake L looking good (for many years to come)..Steel coming up big this playoff season. For those that say C Williams is 50%; shouldn't be "C"; and should not be playing as much. Do you think JP is dumb? If Colby wasn't contributing and a leader on this Team… Read more »

Pretty good game for a Pats team that's apparently too small with no grinders and lacks character. See what spin the trolls put on this game.

That was a great game. Crowd was un real. Pats totally dominated the Rebels. I have a feeling this is going 7.

Final note. Connar Hobbs is a man playing Against boys. Read your Pats yearbook. Hobbs gives a shout out to his favorite team the Raymore Rockets, and his favorite hockey player, his uncle, the late great Mike Huckle. What a classy kid. Hope this kid makes the show.

Typical Sutter way – trying to goon it up in the last five minutes when the score was in our favour.

Outstanding team effort last night by the kids.

Pete was a guy who went after it and dreamed big. Had some swings and misses, but he went after the brass ring and he got it. No regrets Pete and you are an inspiration to all of us doers out there. You did it and you didn't talk about it. God Speed.

Real lack of class from Red Deer at the end. Get the knuckles foiled up tonight.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

That was a wakeup for the Rebels, who will absolutely crush the Pats tonight.

Red Deer was chippy and chirping a bit but a guy like Williams pointing at the score clock brought some of that on. Sutter won't forget that. Now it's up to the Pats to show they can win two here. If they don't then it's still over in 5. Brown was shaky all night and back to giving up short side goals, and Red Deer seems to be exploiting that. Again it was pp that turned the game around. Three games tied going to the third. Too tight to be talking smack and acting juvenile.

What an amazing game! I was worried when Red Deer went on the power play in the 3rd with the game tied but that shorty sealed it!! What an amazing effort from all lines. That third line really stood out. I hope they come out with all cylinders fired tonight!

GO PATS GO!!

Just too note Williams wasn't pointing at the score on the scoreboard, he was showing the attempt by Red Deer's number 3 to eye gouge him with his stick blade. Not sure if there will be a suspension but the league will be looking at that tape today. Great win, now comes the harder one for both the Pats and MJ to win.

Dismal crowd attendence as evident on Access Tv in both WHL Red Deer/Moose Jaw. Empty seats everywhere in sight. You don't see that in Regina with the Pats.

Go Pats!

Great win by the Pats. Another big one tonight.

Shows how many people are out of touch. Sutter knows what it takes. Brooks, Steel and others better get used to the attention. It is called hockey! Rebels won't roll over and play dead.

There has to be a suspension for the cross check to Williams face late in the 3Rd. anyone know?
