MEDICINE HAT, Alta. (CP) – The Regina Pats snapped a two game losing skid in fine style Wednesday with a surprisingly convincing win over one of the conference leaders. Pavel Padakin scored twice and Daniel Wapple made 37 saves as Regina toppled the Tigers 6-1 at the Arena to open a four game western road trip.

Taylor Cooper, Austin Wagner, Colton Kroeker and Jesse Gabrielle also scored for the Pats (26-14-3).

Dryden Hunt – who was a Pat two weeks ago –  found the back of the net for Medicine Hat (29-11-2), while Marek Langhamer kicked out 26-of-32 shots in defeat.

Regina was outshot 38-32 while going 0/2 on the powerplay and 6/6 killing penalties

The victory was a surprise because the Pats dealt captain Kyle Burroughs and fellow veteran Dryden Hunt to Medicine Hat prior to the WHL’s trade deadline because Medicine Hat was loading up to be a contender.  However Wednesday’s upset victory allowed the Pats to open a 10-point lead over the 3rd-place Swift Current Broncos, while still trailing frontrunning Brandon by 11 point.

Regina continues its road trip Friday in Edmonton at 8:00 on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 7:35 pm).

Great win for the Pats! Should build confidence and momentum. May be a stroke of luck for the team to be on the road like this after the trade deadline. The players and coaches are away and are able to hang out and get to know each other. Really curious how rest of road trip goes. The 2nd half of the season could even be better!
