PATS 7 OIL KINGS 1
REGINA – Two lengthy streaks continued Saturday night as the Regina Pats dumped the Edmonton Oil Kings 7-1 before another sellout crowd in the Brandt Centre.
It was the Pats’ eighth consecutive win while the rebuilding Oil Kings suffered their 14th straight defeat.
Before a crowd of 6484 on Brandt’s Hockey Night In Regina – and thousands more watching on TV throughout Western Canada – the Pats jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a powerplay goal by Josh Mahura before the game was two minutes old. Wyatt Sloboshan scored at even strength at 6:40 to give Regina a 2-0 lead after 20.
Oil Kings leading scorer Davis Koch cut Regina’s lead in half with a powerplay goal at 4:51 of the second but the Pats struck back with tallies by the lethal tandem of Sam Steel and Adam Brooks for a 4-1 lead after two periods.
Regina continued to pour it on the third with goals from Braydon Buziak, Nick Henry and another from Sloboshan to cap a 7-1 rout.
Regina outshot Edmonton 35-18 while going 3/4 on the powerplay and 4/5 killing penalties.
Jordan Hollett got the win in the Pats goal while Patrick Dea took the loss.
The Pats (37-6-7) return to action Wednesday in Calgary at 8:00 pm Sask Time on 620 CKRM. Their next home game is on Valentine’s Day when the Everett Silvertips come to town.
