Regina, Sask. — The Regina Pats have acquired 2004-born forward Tye Spencer from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for 2002-born forward Drew Englot.
Spencer, 17, has totalled 11 points (3G-8A) in 32 games with the Blazers so far this season. The Saskatoon, Sask. native was drafted by Kamloops in the third round, 50th overall in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. The 5-foot-8, 145 lb. winger scored two goals in 16 games during his rookie season last year after tallying 24 points (13G-11A) in 35 games with the Saskatoon Contacts during the 2019-20 season. Prior to playing for the Contacts, Spencer scored 59 goals in 31 games for the Saskatoon Maniacs U15 AA team during the 2018-19 season, the most goals of any U15 AA player in the province.
Englot, 19, scored 16 points (6G-10A) while playing in all 32 games for the Pats prior to the trade. The Candiac, Sask. native played parts of three seasons with the Pats from 2019-2022, totalling 40 points (20G-20A) in 112 games after he was acquired from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in 2019 in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2022. The 6-foot-2, 198 lb. centre attended the Edmonton Oilers rookie development camp this past September.
“Drew has been a valuable player for us in his time here and grown as a player and person,” Regina Pats GM and Head Coach John Paddock said. “This was a chance to get a younger high skilled player in Tye [Spencer] that will fit in with our 2004 and 2005-born players. We wish Drew the best in Kamloops and thank him for his efforts.”
The Pats organization would like to welcome Tye to the team and thank Drew for all his contributions to the organization.
