PATS CLEAN HOUSE

Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats Hockey Club announced on Tuesday that Head Coach Malcolm Cameron, Assistant Coaches Bill McGuigan and Josh Dixon will not be returning for the upcoming season. The search for a new coaching staff will begin immediately.

Malcolm Cameron has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. Cameron joined the Pats in 2011 as an assistant coach and spent last season as head coach. Prior to joining the Pats he spent the previous seven seasons in the ECHL coaching in, Long Beach, Texas, Florida and Elmira.

Josh Dixon informed the team of his resignation June 17th, 2014. Dixon joined the Pats in 2011 and has been an assistant coach with the hockey club for the past three seasons.  Prior to joining the Blue and White, Dixon was the Head Coach for the Okanagan Hockey Academy varsity team.  He also spent time as an assistant coach in the ACAC.

Bill McGuigan informed the team of his resignation June 5th, 2014. McGuigan joined the Pats last season as an assistant coach.  Prior to his time in Regina, McGuigan spent time as head coach of the Summerside Western Capitals, Miramichi Timberwolves and Charlottetown Abbies.

The organization would like to sincerely thank all three coaches, Malcolm, Bill and Josh for their service to the hockey club and wish them the very best as they move forward in their careers.

Regina Pats Senior Vice President/General Manager Chad Lang, will be addressing the media this afternoon at 2:30 pm on the concourse in front of the Pats office, located in the west end of the Brandt Centre.

Wow, weird move this late in the off season especially with retaining no assistants etc.

Why keep lang? These were all his hires?

Roddy, think this has anything to do with the new code of conduct being mandated that forced the resignations of the two assistants?

How does Lang stay? Everyone knows he should be the first one to be gone. Go after Hamilton in Edmonton before its too late, although it sounds like it already is too late.

Why would Lang not stay? I don't think anyone thinks he should be gone – except maybe you. He's done a great job since taking over.

There is nothing wrong with Lang as a GM he had built MJ's protected list into 1 of the strongest in the league and he is in the process of doing the same with the Pats. His last 3 drafts have been very strong and we should start seeing results from those drafts starting this year.

This is very shocking news as a die hard Pats fan, this past season was the best brand of hockey being played in the dome since 2001

This is clearly a move by the new owners and i assume they already have someone in mind and/or already have offered someone the job.
This will be a big hire. A pro/NHL guy for sure.
You don't make a move like this and then hire some Jr A guy or WHL assistant.

This is an excellent move by the Pats new ownership group! All Cameron did was trade and scratch/bench the future in favour of older tier II plugs. he rode 2 lines in a weak east division and was good enough to get swept in round one. Cameron has no idea what junior hockey is all about. good move by the Pats. Maybe now there is hope for a guy like Steel, and other young prospects, as Cameron would have had them sitting on the bench or in the stands. Maybe now the Pats will actually have a future Step 2… Read more »

If they hire Lorne Mollenken ill be walking into the Pats office and asking for my money back from my early bird season tickets. That would be a HUUGE step backwards not forwards.

Who told you the Pats have a strong list? Maybe your contacts are different than mine.

Lang has one playoff win in 4 years. THAT is progress?

first bad move of the new owners. overstepped the GM…really puts a vote of no confidence in the GM…to wait this long…not a very good sign of the new owner group…hope it isn't involving other former pat buddies. Was hoping for a new start but this is bush league again

Is Chad Mercier still in the personal fitness training business? Think this would be a good time to bring him back with a young team like this.

Let me say the records of Sillinger, Molleken and Mercier and the Major Junior ranks? Then, please compare them to Johnston, Huska, Luxdall, Hay, Desjardins, Mcrimmon, Nachbaur etc and then see the pattern.

Who was the last Pats Coach in 15 years that had a winning record here, then went on to bigger success at another level and championship….yup, exactly sound the crickets.

We need a proven winner at the Major Jr. Ranks, plain and simple.
