PATS DEADLINE DEAL

Regina Pats Senior VP and General Manager Chad Lang announced today the Pats have acquired centre Logan McVeigh (’94) and goaltender Daniel Wapple (’95) in exchange for goaltender Nick Schneider (’97) and a 3rd Round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2016.

Logan McVeigh is a veteran of 239 games in the WHL having played in Kamloops, Prince Albert and Medicine Hat.  Last season was McVeigh’s best in the league, totaling 43 points (19G, 24A) between the Raiders and Tigers.  This season, the Kenaston, SK product has 17 points (7G, 10A) in 41 games. McVeigh was 2nd Round Bantam pick of the Kamloops Blazers in 2009.

Daniel Wapple is in his second year in the WHL, having played 24 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers this season.  The Saskatoon, SK native features a record of 13-9-1-0 with a 2.95 GAA, 0.906 SV% and one shutout on the season. Wapple was a 4th Round Bantam pick of the Moose Jaw Warriors in 2010.

Heading the other way in the deal, Nick Schneider joined the Pats this season to back-up Dawson MacAuley.  The rookie played in nine games for the Blue and White, posting a 2-2-0-2 record, a 3.56 GAA and a 0.870 SV%.

I have mixed feelings about the trade, we do get a #2 center and a goalie that will most likely take over the #1 spot by feb 1st but was it worth giving up on Scheinder? Scheinder and Champan would of been a great tandem

Hope there is another deal just waiting to get approval by the league there is always deals that leak in within the 1st hr of the trade deadline passing

I think McVeigh will fit in very nicely on the 2nd line, and Wapple/MacAuley tandem should put us in great shape tender wise. Kind of surprised on the Maguire trade but maybe he just wasn't happy in the role set out for him by the coaches. McCoy – at least we got a draft pick which is something for a player who wanted to pursue education before hockey (not saying that is bad as education is important).
