PATS DEAL RW SMITH TO KAMLOOPS FOR D-MAN DAVIDSON
Regina – The Regina Pats have acquired 18-year-old defenceman Dawson Davidson from Kamloops. In exchange the Pats send 18-year-old forward Luc Smith to the Blazers.
Davidson, a product of Moosomin, Saskatchewan, has three goals and 15 points in 32 games this season. He was originally a third round pick of the Blazers in 2013. For his career, Davidson has 63 points in 124 games and is a plus 17.
“We are excited to add a young puck moving defenceman that can skate well,” said Pats Head Coach and GM John Paddock. “Dawson will fit well into our current team and in the future.”
Smith, a third round pick of the Pats in 2013, has six goals and 11 points in 29 games this year.
“We wish Luc all the best with the Blazers,” said Paddock. “He has been a credit to our team on and off the ice.”
The Pats return to action after the Christmas break tonight at the Brandt Centre against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at reginapats.com or at the Brandt Centre Box Office.
Sorry to see Smith moved, I thought he showed a lot of improvement in his skating and puck handling this year. We have good depth at forward and will have a couple of holes to fill on D next year. Best of Luck Luc, welcome to the Pat's Dawson.
Can't go wrong with a Pat D-man named Davidson!
In Paddock we trust! I have really liked Smith's growth over this season, but the Pats definitely need an upgrade on D. I suspect this deal is as much about next year as this year. Davidson won't hurt this year, Smith was going to be a 4th line guy if everyone stayed healthy. Best of luck in Kamloops Smith!
Just a good old hockey trade. Both teams got a good player that brings a particular set of skills and attributes. I really liked Smith and I think the Pats will miss him terribly. He can play hockey and was a long time Pat. He is big and stands up for the his mates which is something they will miss. Davidson is a small skilled d-man. What I've read much like a lot of the other Pats d-men, he has a problem in his own zone turning over pucks. Hope they can straighten that out. The Pats seem to be… Read more »
Last Anon please send me a link to the article you read about Davidson "turning over the puck in his own end" please. I am interested in reading it. I liked Luc as well but as JP said they are deep in forwards but not so much in "puck moving" defensemen. And he added on the pregame interview last night "We have lots of skilled forwards and a solid defense, but we would rather not play defense. They can't score if we have the puck, so when we get the puck in our zone we need the ability to get… Read more »
I agree with you William weppler. I have not read anywhere that Davidso gives up pucks in his own end. Yes he's a smaller defence man at 5'11" and needs to bulk up a bit. The scouting report on Davidson (pasted below) does state he could improve his strength. But nothing about turning pucks over in his own end. In fact it's reads quite the opposite … stating he works the puck up the ice with ease! “Speed and skating are the strongest part of Davidson’s game, he shows agile footwork and strong opening strides that explode from a standstill.… Read more »
