PATS DEAL WITH HURRICANES
Regina Pats Sr. VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach John Paddock announced today the team has acquired forward Taylor Cooper (’95) from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Brady Reagan (’97).
Taylor Cooper (6’0”, 185 lbs.) joins the Pats in the midst of a career year. The Sherwood Park, AB native has 28 points (12G, 16A) in 38 games played. Cooper has points in each of his last seven games with Lethbridge (3G, 7A) and has registered a point in twelve of his last thirteen games. Cooper was the Brandon Wheat Kings’ 6th Round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and made his debut in the 2012-13 season in Brandon. Cooper has played 167 games in the WHL, registering 77 points (33G, 44A) and 99 penalty minutes over his career.
Brady Reagan was the Pats’ 2nd Round pick in 2012 and suited up for the team as a rookie last season. The young defender played in 61 games for the Pats, picking up seven points (1G, 6A) with five of those points (1G, 4A) coming this season. Reagan leaves the Pats a +5 in the plus/minus category. In his rookie season, Reagan earned a spot on Team Pacific for the 2012-14 U17 Hockey Challenge.
The Pats also announced they have recalled defenceman Ryan Krushen (’98) from Sherwood Park of the AMHL. Krushen has played three games for the Pats this season.
“With the moves we’ve made we were looking to add some veteran scoring. We have that in Taylor and we’re confident he will help us the rest of the way,” commented John Paddock. “With Nathyn Morlock’s play, wanting to get a good look at Ryan Krushen and the addition of Connor Hobbs… this allowed us to look at moving Brady. He’s played well for us and we wish him the best in Lethbridge.”
Taylor Cooper makes his Pats debut along with newly acquired defenceman Connor Hobbs Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre when the Pats host the Everett Silvertips at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.ca, the Brandt Centre Box Office and Safeway locations throughout Regina.
Cooper is a bona fide stud. Great trade for the Pats. With all these trades we finally have a professionally managed hockey team. My head is spinning and am excited as to how this all plays out. I wouldn't bet against this new ownership group, Paddock and the coaching staff. Unbelievable times for this hockey club and am hopeful the fans embrace these young boys. Go Pats Go!
Doesn't make much sense first getting rid of our top 95 players to get younger then turn around and trade a 97 player for a 95! One hard team to make any sense out of giving our good players for little in return. Says they need draft picks then trade better draft choices for lower ones? This they call the improved Pats management!! REALLY!!!! We'll see if the fans buy this….on paper just doesn't make sense with what they say!!!!
…yup we trade away all our 19 's and then comes an oh sh#t moment. we don't got any veteran leadership, scoring or experience. Geez we better get out there and get some by trading for it. Not only did we give Red Deer a great 19 year old in Gay, we also gave them a 2nd round pick for a 1st round prospect. But oh wait we then go and give them the 1st round pick back in 2016. You can call that great asset management but I know what most common sense people call it. If it looks… Read more »
Cmon Reginawing think it through, don't spew bullsh!t without having some basic information. Get educated. Last poster, I'm sure Paddock just raised his hands and had an oh sh#t moment (NOT). Go Pats Go!
not many people on here understand junior hockey and how to build a contender for the coming years
Do you really think Sutter would of took that deal with just the picks alone? He wouldn't of been gaining a darn thing, Gay was the soul reason that trade happened
Actually most of the last posters show just how stupid they really are… Lescyshyn wouldn't have done anything for Sutter as a 16 year old on a men Cup team. He needs 19 year olds so it was an easy trade. All he did was defer his 1st round pick for two years to when he can actually use it. We didn't gain a 1st round picks In addition we gave up Gay who became their leading scorer this season and will be in the top 10 next when Sutter really needs him. Then to boot we throw in a… Read more »
