PATS FALL IN BRANDON, WILL FACE HURRICANES

Brandon, Manitoba – The Regina Pats (36-28-3-5) and Brandon Wheat Kings (48-18-4-2) concluded their regular seasons Saturday night in Brandon. Jayce Hawryluk scored three times as the Wheat Kings captured a 3-0 win.
Game Story
Both teams took time to feel each other out in the opening frame. The Pats generated a pair of great scoring chances. Lane Zablocki slipped through defenders before firing a shot just over the top corner. Riley Woods followed that by setting up a Sam Steel tip-play that was turned away by Jordan Papirny. At the other end, Tyler Brown was tested often with his best save coming against Jayce Hawryluk on a cross-ice play. With twenty minutes in the books neither team found the back of the net.
The Pats came out strong in the second, controlling the play early on, but couldn’t find a way to beat Papirny. Jayce Hawryluk continued his scoring ways against the Pats, knocking in a Mitch Wheaton rebound to open the scoring 6:44 in. The Florida Panthers prospect struck again when he tipped a Wheaton shot past Brown for a 2-0 Brandon lead before the midway point of the period. Tyler Brown was the best Pat on the ice, making 22 saves in the period for a two period total of 34 stops.
The third frame saw the Wheat Kings extend their lead when Jayce Hawryluk rolled in on a two-on-one, kept, and netted his third of the night. The Pats best chance to get back into the contest came when Cole Sanford was awarded a penalty shot, but Jordan Papirny came up with a glove stop. The Pats couldn’t find a way to generate a goal on the night, falling by the 3-0 score. Papirny made 17 saves for the shutout.
What’s Next?
The Pats open the playoffs in either Lethbridge or Prince Albert, dates still to be determined. Playoff tickets for Games Three and Four (dates TBD) are available Monday, March 21 at noon through reginapats.com and the Brandt Centre Box Office.

Hopefully Berg and Steel are in for Game 1.
A tough night for the boys but Brown gave us a chance to win…a lot of Wheaties shots not great scoring chances but they were sure throwing them towards the net whenever possible. Some bad penalties but PK was great.
Looking forward to the road trip to Lethbridge next weekend!

Now I hear TBD on suspension to Adam Berg? WTF is up with this league against the Pats? Last year they suspend Hobbs basically for playoffs and Hilsendegger

Great job boys for an excellent season for such a young team.The road ahead is all bonus for this club, as everyone expected the team to be well behind the other clubs, so that is an accomplishment in itself. It seems real funny that all the Pat bashers on this site have been very quiet the past five games as they have nothing to cry about.They really need to get a life and comment on a sport they now something about,lets pick lawn bowling. Pats will get swept I the playoffs.
Brandon showed last night why they are one of the elite teams in the league. The score flattered us and anyone who watched it knows that's a fact. The coaches comments included words such as embarrassing, discouraging, soft and more.. They know they have lots of work to get to where they are supposed to be next season. Agreed , the Adam Brooks winning WHL scoring championship with 120 points has been overlooked. The last Pat to do this was Dale Derkatch (number retired) with 179 points in 1982-83. Well done Brooks.
The Rider season can't come quick enough.
