PATS NOTES: KIEPER, FEIST RANKED & SCHEDULE CHANGES
Regina, Sask. — Regina Pats goaltender Matthew Kieper and defenceman Layton Feist have each cracked NHL Central Scouting’s 2022 NHL Draft Mid-Season Rankings, which were announced Wednesday.
Kieper, 17, is ranked 17th among North American goalies and fifth among WHL goaltenders. The 2004-born Winnipeg, Man. native has appeared in 25 games this season, going 12-11-0 with a 3.53 goals-against average and a .885 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 181 lb. goaltender is fifth in the WHL in games, sixth in minutes (1,393) and eighth in total saves (628). He was previously drafted in the third round by the Pats in 2019 out of the Winnipeg Sharks U15 program where he won both WAAA U15 Goalie of the Year and the WAAA U15 Most Valuable Player.
Feist, 17, is ranked 193rd among North American skaters. The 2004-born Dawson Creek, B.C., native, has totaled 13 points (3G-10A) in 27 games this season, with three goals and five assists over his last seven contests. The 5-foot-10, 168 lb. defenceman scored five goals and four assists for nine points in 21 games as a 16-year-old last season. He was previously drafted by the Pats with the 17th pick of the first round in 2019.
Regina Pats European prospects Joakim Kemell and Alexander Suzdalev were also named to the International skaters midterm rankings. Kemell, selected by the Pats in the first round of the 2021 CHL Import Draft, ranks first amongst all International skaters thanks to an impressive season where he has scored 12 goals and totalled 18 points in 21 games with JYP in Liiga, the top Finnish league. Suzdalev, selected by the Pats in the second round of the 2021 CHL Import Draft, ranks 24th, and has tallied 32 points (11G-21A) in 29 games so far with HV71 J20 this season.
