PATS TOP RAIDERS 5-3
REGINA – It was the kind of win that brings a team together. Braxton Whitehead and Layton Feist scored their first career goals and Connor Bedard registered two assists as the Regina Pats downed the Prince Albert Raiders 5-3 Thursday in the Brandt Centre Hub.
In the second meeting of the year between the East Division rivals, Pats overage Carson Denomie got Regina on the board with a powerplay tally – his 7th – with 47 seconds remaining in the first period. 1-0 Regina after 1.
The Pats upped their bulge to 3-1 in the middle frame as Whitehead and Cole Carrier scored their first of the campaign.
A rather furious third period saw two goals from each side – Feist and Carter Massier for Regina and Eric Pearce and Landon Kosior for the Raiders – as the Pats held on for the 5-3 victory.
Regina was outshot by 29-27 while going 1/3 on the powerplay and 5/6 on the penalty kill. Rookie Pats netminder Matthew Kieper collected the win while Raider goalie Carter Serhyenko was on the hook for the loss. With his two assists, Exceptional Player Connor Bedard extended his season-opening point streak to 7 games.
The Pats are right back at it Friday in a 4:00 pm tilt with the Saskatoon Blades on AccessNow TV and 620 CKRM. The Blades downed the Pats 6-3 in their only other meeting back on March 14.
