WARRIORS 4 PATS 3 (OT)

REGINA — The Moose Jaw Warriors spoiled the Regina Pats’ party.  On the night the Pats’ unveiled their splashy new video scoreboard before a season high 6484 fans, former Pats forward Jack Rodewald scored the winner on the powerplay at 3:34 of overtime as the Warriors skated off with a 4-3 victory Friday in the Brandt Centre.

The Warriors led 1-0 after one period and 2-1 after 40 minutes.  The Pats’ first goal came at 7:42 of the second period when Sam Steel made it 1-1 with his 11th of the season.

Moose Jaw upped their lead to 3-1 in the third and it looked as though they were going to ride off with the sure victory but the Pats made it exciting in the final minutes.  Regina’s Taylor Cooper made it 3-2 on the powerplay with 4:50 remaining and teammate Pavel Padakin tied it 3-3 with an Alexander Ovechkin-type goal with 3:34 to go.

On they went to overtime and the Warriors outshot the Pats 3-0 in the extra session.  A tripping penalty on Regina’s Sergey Zborovsky set the Warriors up with a 4-on-3 powerplay.  Jack Rodewald promptly ended the game while on the man advantage and the Warriors lustily celebrated their first win over the Pats in 12 games.

The Warriors outshot the Pats 37-21 over the course of the game while going 2/5 on the powerplay.  Regina was 1/5.  Daniel Wapple took the loss in the Regina goal making 33 saves.

The Pats (26-14-5) visit the Brandon Wheat Kings Saturday night at 7:30 on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 7:05 pm).

Paddock has this team playing a far to passive game. He needs to understand this team team needs to let the like of Christopher and Gabrielle get physically involved. They had the opportunity to put a little spark into the team but held off. Way to meek. Maybe that's how he coached in the NHL but Major Junior is a different game and Coach Struch had better educate our HC. Teams in this league who have lived by run and gun have not had much overall playoff success. They usually get knocked out by bigger more physical teams. I'm beginning… Read more »

They need to turn down the volume, it's hard on the ears. I would think twice before taking my kids there for that reason.

Was a fairly decent atmosphere in there. Like 'old times'when MJ would visit. However, above is correct. there were at very least 1,500 seats open. That's what happens when Brandt Industries buys over 1,000 tickets themselves. And make no mistake the Semples own and dictate this team.

If you missed the clock, no problem. Go next week when its back to its usual 2,000 people in attendance.

Padakin since getting a letter has stepped up at lot. D'Amico has stepped back since getting a letter. Williams has been up and down but tonight he wasn't too bad. We don't have a lot of vets so when they're not playing well, which they're not, we struggle. If they're not leading the young guys won't follow, which their not.We went too young too soon and it may end up biting us in the butt. Instead of the cute hockey they've been trying to play they need to get back to lot more smash mouth gritty game. The only problem… Read more »

1500 seats open? What game were you at? Keep enjoying your crack you schmuck. People like you are what bring the Pats and Regina people down. I thought the clock was impressive, boys didn't play well, we got a point, and to question Paddock on how to coach is ridiculous. Go Pats Go

Beautiful clock and pretty good atmosphere. Looks like the MJ crowd had fun up in Sec 215…very loud and won the 50/50. Good night for them!

I tried to buy tickets 2 weeks ago for this game but couldn't get any pairs together. Would have been nice if all the Brandt employees (or whoever got the free tickets) actually showed up. Tons of empty seats.

It was however good to have 5000+ there…was an atmosphere that place hasn't seen in years.

Hopefully we see lots of this in the next couple years as this young team gets better.

Video board looked great. Agreed the Pats stole a point but horrible penalty call in OT. Just found out ticket prices for next year are changing. Further details to come but sideline seats will cost more than endzone seats. And gone is adult senior and kids pricing by the sounds of it. Why? Going to a more professional way of pricing but this isnt pro it is junior hockey. Gonna deter some people from going as it likely will be more expensive for families. Must be the way to help pay for the video board. Glad the Riders have not… Read more »

probably 1500 seats open for sure. I agree on the sound though. Pop some bass into it though to make it sound better.
All kinks people, give them a bit to work them out!

Last anon is correct. Gold pricing for gold seats? Sure, if this was Maple Leaf Gardens. Junior hockey's target audience are the families. Except in Regina I guess. However, everyone can still buy the cheap tix and just move to the gold seats after a few min. There'll be enuf empty ones around.

I am a season ticket holder that thought maybe the scoreboard hoopla was a bit overboard. But was I ever wrong, that scoreboard changes the whole atmosphere of the gameday experience (for us anyway).

Great night at the Brandt Center. The new clock is a great addition to the game experience. A few tweeks needed on the lighting (corners a little dark). Volume needs to be down a little on the sound system. Not as many empty seats as some posters claim. These seats were paid for and many fans choose to stand on the concourse to watch the game.
Impressed with the new ownership group.

Team doing well hey let's mess that all up and get younger get real. All you parker haters I feel just wanted the team to sell because of him I really don't know what paddock was smoking to do this.

Not sure how anyone can deny the fact that most of the East end stands were empty – and there is nowhere really to stand anymore on the concourse.

This isn't a pure negative thing, but it is fact. Atmosphere was good. New clock is nice but nothing to absolutely blow your doors off – only because every rink has one.

Go Pats!

The organization is ELECTRIC now , I don't know what you are talking about. Paddock is the man and the future is bright with him at the helm of GM / Coach.

Rod, I caught part of your broadcast last night. I like Phil's work. He brings his own style, but you and Al just sort of bring it to another level. It was a treat to listen. Thanks for the memories.
