LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Adam Brooks and Austin Wagner both scored in a seven-round shootout as the Regina Pats edged the Lethbridge Hurricanes 9-8 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

It was a wild one in Enmax Centre before 2926 fans as the Pats led 5-3 after one, were tied 5-5 after two, and found themselves trailing 8-7 in the third.

Lane Zablocki had a hat trick – including the goal that forced overtime – for Regina’s (30-23-7) seventh win in a row. Cole Sanford struck twice and added an assist for the Pats, while Wagner, Sam Steel and Rykr Cole also scored.

Tyler Brown made 47 saves and turned away six of seven skaters in the shootout to earn the win.

Colton Kroeker had a hat trick as part of a five-point night for Lethbridge (40-19-2). Captain Tyler Wong scored twice and added four assists, while Ryley Lindgren, Brayden Burke and Brady Reagan rounded out the attack.

Stuart Skinner started in net for the Hurricanes, but was pulled after stopping 1-of-5 shots in the first 10:09 of play. Jayden Sittler turned aside 37-of-41 shots in relief.

The Pats went 1 for 4 on the power play and Lethbridge was 2 for 4.

The Pats return home Friday to welcome the Prince Albert Raiders at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM.

5-1 lead. Then to be down 8-7 and tie it up. Then to win in shoot out. Come on! Should have never come to this. Give your head shake Pats organization.

Give your head a shake organization? What the heck are you talking about?! Yes they gave up a lead, but they also won the game! Lethbridge is a very go team and to win on the road is big. Give your head a shake Bruce.

A win by the Pats over a 10 ten team in Canada, nuff said. Warriors are 7th and Raiders are 3rd by years end. Both those teams are soft throughout the line up. Go Pats Go!

So what if it was an ugly win. They still found a way to win against one of the top teams on the road! Games like that happen all the time. They can be fun for the players and the fans (maybe not the goalies!). Enjoy the winning streak and quit looking for the negative.

The Pats have been good lately at getting on the scoreboard really early. I hope they keep that up.

It was nice to see Zablocki get the hat trick.

GO PATS!

I live in Regina and had a few days off so I made a road trip out to south east Alberta to visit a friend. We were at the Medicine Hat game on Tuesday and in Lethbridge last night. The Pats showed unbelievable guts and determination in both games. Those were two of the most entertaining junior hockey games that I have witnessed during my 38 years as a Pats fan. The coaches have this team well prepared and they play a really nice brand of hockey. I can't wait to see what they do in the playoffs, I certainly… Read more »

If the NHL could have more games like this WHL action, then they will have struck gold and could put to bed any notion of wider nets/pads etc.

9-8 is not a hockey game but more like a baseball game or even a football game. The last soccer game I watched ended 2-1 and there were 100,000 people there. Good sports are good sports. The quality of a game has nothing to do with the score, but the quality of play. The Pats defence is as porous as cheesecloth. If they don't fix that soon, they won't go past the first round. Games get tight and defensive so they had better learn how to play that way soon.

Like I said, sounds like an entertaining game, and, yes, for the first time this year I am going to the next game.

2nd last anon is a true idiot. First 'SHE' watches soccer, that speaks volumes. Pats beat a top 10 team in Canada and are the hottest team in the country. Take your cheesecloth and comments and go be with the other soccer FEmales. Must be a Warriors or Raiders fan!

Listen to the interview on CKRM , one of the coaches admits there are a lot of things to work on, which is obvious if eight goals were scored against them, but remember, the Pats scored 9. Take the win, enjoy the ride the rest of the season. Things are definitely starting to click and it could be a more exciting end to the season than you think.

Wow,

I didn't think there were any losers still around with the "soccer is for girls" mentality. Forgot where I was, however. Carry on, Cletus.

Yea who are you cheering for on Friday Rod? Double WOW…some bloggers never cease to amaze with there comments 🙂 Loved watching the game with all the offense …haven't seen one like that for awhile. As the game went on I didn't really care who won as it was so entertaining. Not great hockey but entertaining. The OT saves by Sittler were unbelievable, and Pats hit 2 posts as well!! I sure like Coach Herauf's comments after the last 2 games(anyone but Struch)…at least Brad gives some positives when the Pats win…but does point out that there are areas the… Read more »

This may be a dumb question but does anyone know if Coach Herauf travels with the team? I didn't notice him on the bench this past week, thanks
