PFC FINAL: THUNDER 15 HUSKIES 6
REGINA — Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns and the Thunder defence forced four turnovers in Regina’s season-opening 15-6 PFC win over the Edmonton Huskies Sunday at Mosaic Stadium.
Both of St. Pierre-Laviolette’s majors came three minutes apart in the third quarter to put the Thunder up 15-3. The Huskies kicked a field goal in the fourth and that was it for scoring in the contest.
The Thunder defence got two interceptions from Polis Koko and defensive lineman Matthew Williams had a monster game with 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. Regina’s Ryan Warner was credited with a forced fumble. LB Daxton Moffatt and DB Marcus Hall led the club with 4 tackles each.
Offensively quarterback Sawyer Beuttner was 16 of 31 passing for 170 yards and one interception. Kris Calcutt led the receiving corps with 51 yards on five catches.
The 1-0 Regina Thunder will visit the 1-0 Calgary Colts on Sunday in a rematch of the 2015 PFC playoff semi-final.
