PFC PREVIEW: EDM WILDCATS AT REGINA THUNDER

HOME IN WEEK 2:
The PFC’s Regina Thunder (1-0) host the Edmonton Wildcats (1-0) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm at Mosaic Stadium. The Thunder were 49-32 winners at home to Winnipeg in Week 1 while the Wildcats beat the Edmonton Huskies 35-33. In 2014 the clubs split the two game season series with the road team winning each time.

GAME NOTES:
The Regina Thunder scored a league-leading 49 points in week 1. They put up 28 first downs, 179 passing yards and 277 rushing yards for a net offense of 446.  It was a clean opening week for the Thunder with no turnovers in the win and gave up just one sack.

Quarterback Jaeden Marwick threw for 70 yards and a touchdown on 5 of 9 passing before suffering a finger injury and left the game in the 1st half.  Sawyer Buettner came in and went 7 for 17 for 109 yards in relief.  Thunder coach Scott MacAulay has not yet publicly announced his starting quarterback for this game.

The Edmonton Wildcats scored 35 points which was second only to Regina in the first week of the season. They put up 22 first downs, 204 passing yards and 235 along the ground for a net of 425. The offense turned the ball over once on a second half interception but did not give up a sack.

Quarterback Jordan Olson was 12 of 24 passing for 204 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. He added 3 carries for 16 yards along the ground.

The Thunder defense gave up 32 points in Week 1, 3rd-best in the PFC. The club allowed 23 first downs, 129 yards rushing and 236 through the air. The defense forced 5 turnovers, 3 interceptions and a fumble.

The Thunder special teams gave up a total of 1 yard in punt returns in their first game and 110 yards on 8 kickoffs. Meanwhile they got 43 yards on 4 punt returns by Kristiane Desautels and had just one punt return that went for nothing.
