POPP GETS CONTRACT EXTENSION

MONTREAL (CP) – The Montreal Alouettes signed general manager Jim Popp to a three-year contract extension on Thursday.

The 49-year-old native of Elkin, N.C., is the only GM the team has had since it returned to Montreal after a 10-year hiatus in 1996.

His teams have never failed to make the playoffs, winning Grey Cups in 2002, 2009 and 2010.

Popp also serves as a vice-president and director of football operations.

The Alouettes have split their first two games this season.

Interesting move by the Wetenhall, considering Popp had no say in the hiring of Tom Higgins. I thought Popp was on his out.
