MONTREAL – Duran Carter looks ready to pick up where he left off two seasons ago with the Montreal Alouettes.

The wide receiver, who spent last season in the NFL after a standout 2014 campaign in Montreal, caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Glenn in the first quarter Friday night to start the Alouettes on a 22-15 CFL pre-season victory over the Toronto Argonauts.

“The chemistry is that he told me to throw him the ball so I did and he scored,” said Glenn. “We came out a little slow, but we picked it up toward the end of the first quarter.

Vernon Adams had a TD toss to B.J. Cunningham and Tahj Boyd ran in a touchdown for Montreal (1-1), which had an announced crowd of 14,882 at Percival Molson Stadium.

Defensive back Josua Mitchell returned a fumble for a touchdown, Edwin Baker ran one in and Lirim Hajrullahu kicked a 42 yard field goal for Toronto (1-1).

The Alouettes started most of their regulars while the Argos dressed a B-team and it showed as Montreal had a 15-3 lead at the intermission.

“We didn’t play a starter on offence,” said Argos coach Scott Milanovich. “I thought our guys played hard and they tried to get back in the game.

“Too many mistakes, but some of that is to be expected.”

Montreal Receiver S.J. Green had a left knee problem in the first quarter and was held out of the rest of the game as a precautionary measure. He is expected to play the season opener Friday in Winnipeg.

Toronto opens Thursday night at home against Hamilton.
