PRESEASON: WHEAT KINGS 6 PATS 2
The Regina Pats (1-3-0-0) played their first road game of the 2015 Pre-Season visiting the Brandon Wheat Kings (1-0-0-0). The Wheat Kings flexed their offensive muscle, capturing a 6-2 victory Friday night at Westman Communications Group Place.
Tyler Brown was sharp again in his second start of the pre-season holding the Wheat Kings to just one goal on 16 first period shots. That marker came when Kale Clague hammered a slap shot off Brown’s pad with the rebound sliding to Ty Lewis who lifted the puck into the net.
The middle frame saw the Pats find more even footing with the Wheat Kings. However, Braylon Shmyr took advantage of a loose puck, shoveling it behind Jordan Hollett following the mid-game goalie swap and put the score at 2-0 Brandon. The Pats tallied on the powerplay as Sam Steel and Riley Woods combined to set up Chase Harrison for the goal, cutting the lead to 2-1. Brandon restored the advantage when Tanner Kaspick grabbed a rebound off the back wall and deposited it in the goal for a 3-1 lead after forty.
The Wheat Kings continued to press the attack in the third period, scoring three more times. Luc Smith responded on a strong individual effort for the Pats’ lone goal of the frame in a 6-2 loss to Brandon.
