PRESTIGE FC FIGHTER PROFILES
Matt Zemlak |

An intriguing preliminary fight featuring a popular local competitor has been set for Prestige FC 2: Queen City Coronation presented by 104.9 The Wolf.
Regina’s own Matt Zemlak will have plenty of hometown support on his side when he takes on Winnipeg’s Damian Johnston in a welterweight matchup on the card slated for Saturday, March 12th at the George Reed Auditorium inside The Orr Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan (all fights pending ACS approval).
This will be Zemlak’s professional debut although he has an extensive background in martial arts beginning with tae-kwon-do and boxing. The 33-year-old then added Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu to his arsenal. As his training regimen grew more intense, Zemlak competed in several jiu-jitsu and submission wrestling events and totaled a 4-1 record in amateur MMA action.
But his rugged approach to sports started even earlier than his first days on the mat and in the ring.
“I grew up as a hockey player who was known for crashing and banging so MMA was natural fit for me,” said Zemlak, who knows he’ll have a large cheering section on-hand on fight night.

“I’m an IBEW electrician working at the K+S site in Bethune, and I’m receiving a lot of support from co-workers plus friends and family. I’m pretty pumped to fight as a pro for Prestige FC. It’s an honour to compete in front of my friends and family and work towards success. It’s a great opportunity for me.
“I’m focused on training hard and putting in the time for this fight. As far as I’m concerned, the match is the fun part.”
Johnston (1-0) made his professional debut in September 2014 and scored a second-round TKO finish.
