RAIDERS 6 PATS 5 SO
Prince Albert, SK – In a wild back and forth affair, the Prince Albert Raiders came away with a 6-5 shootout victory over the Regina Pats on Wednesday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
On a night filled with highly intense moments and plenty of lead changes, the Raiders found a way to prevail in front of a ruckus weekday crowd at the Art Hauser Centre. With the game in overtime, Ian Scott brought the 2500 fans to their feet with one of the best saves of the year, stretching across the crease to deny Sam Steel. As the game reached a shootout, Jordan Tkatch netted the Raiders a win with a goal in the fourth round.
Tkatch lead all Raiders with two goals and one assist for three points in the game. Luke Coleman (1g-1a), Parker Kelly (1g-1a), and Sean Montgomery (2a) each had a pair of points, while the team also got goals from Vojtech Budik and Jesse Lees.
Adam Brooks (3a) and Austin Wagner (1g-2a) had big nights for the Pats with three points, while Adam Berg (1g-1a) had two points. Regina’s other goals came off the sticks of Luc Smith, Colby Williams, and Sergey Zborovskiy.
Recording his fourth straight win, Scott stopped 26 of 31 shots on goal, while Tyler Brown turned away 32 of 37 attempts.
The Raiders outshot the Pats 38-31. Prince Albert went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Regina was 0-for-2.
The Raiders improve to 22-11-3-1 on the year by recording at least a point in their fourth consecutive game. The Pats drop to 16-16-3-3 on the season.
Regina hosts the Swift Current Broncos on New Years Day at 7:00 pm in the Brandt Centre on 620 CKRM.

Exciting game! I am sure both coaches as well as the fans would of liked to see the refs give their heads a shake…terrible officiating but anymosity between the teams turned this game into a great one.
What gives with Sam Steel?
I thought Sergey Zborovskiy was playing for Russia at the Workd Juniors?
Saw last 2 periods and was a great game to view. Brooks continues to lead this Team as a vet…what a great year is is having…Zabor got cut Xmas Day by the Ruskies last Anon.Sam Steel you ask?…not sure what you mean…he is a treat to watch…so smart when he has the puck…needs some better linemates but only 18 so lots of time yet……he had a great game last night even though didn't hit the scoresheet much…2nd in Team scoring…should shoot more I think…absolutely robbed in OT by the PA Tender on a super setup by Cooper.Broncos on a 2… Read more »
The goal by Steel in the shootout was something else! As a Raider fan all I could say was "Holy Crap" what a goal!
This year 11 games or about 30% of the Pats games have gone to OT or SO and they are 5-6. A couple more of these into wins would have done a lot for their record. I watched the entire thing last night and feel they didn't get the goaltending they needed. Brown made some technical errors that cost goals. He will need to be better going forward. It's tough to score five goals in PA and still lose. They have some work to do yet, and probably a couple moves are warranted.
I really don't get why Steel is being ragged on. He has been producing at a point a game rate pretty well all season and for a 17 year old, that's great. If he reaches 80pts this season, that would be super! His skills are there, he just has to be a bit smarter at times and shoot more. Too many moves sometimes. He will easily produce over 90pts each of the next two seasons. If him and Cooper could find last year's magic, there would be no complaints. Cooper is guilty of trying to do too much or too… Read more »
Steel is playing far below the level he should be. The NHL scouts aren't too enthralled with what he's been able to accomplish. Unless the Pats find him someone to play with and create some magic, while he is quiety putting up points he is also likely slipping to the second round.
Me either FG…a gifted playmaker and plays well defensively…getting drafted to the NHL is a feather in anyone's cap…1st…2nd…3rd round…likely doesn't matter much to the player but seems to bother some people. 18 years old and becoming more of a "whole" player. He will do okay.
"Steel is playing far below the level he should be."
Who do you think he is, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins?? What is it you expect out of him this season? He plays in every situation and if anything might be playing a bit too much at times. It's about more than just points.
