RAIDERS FIRE CLOUSTON

Prince Albert, SK—  The Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League have relieved Head Coach Cory Clouston of his duties effective immediately. Clouston joined the Raiders on June 1, 2013 and was in the second year of a two year contract with the team.

Associate Coach Dave Manson will be the Interim Head Coach tonight when the Raiders play the Warriors in Moose Jaw.  The Raiders will name a permanent Head Coach shortly.

Under Clouston the Raiders had a record of 41-41-3-2 including a mark of 6-9-0-0 this season.  In 2013-14 the Raiders were 35-32-3-2 and won a WHL tie-breaker game over Red Deer under Clouston, before being swept in the first round of the playoffs by eventual Memorial Cup Cham pion Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Raiders return home to host the Saskatoon Blades tomorrow night at 7:00 PM at the Art Hauser Centre.

I don't understand how Bruno Campese keeps his job. All I can think of is the Raiders can't afford to fire him, nobody credible will accept the job, or he has pictures. He's the one constant for this now sad-sack franchise. I'm too young to remember the Memorial Cup team, but I remember many good years in the late 80's and early 90's. It's really, really sad.

How much did the Oilers decision to keep Leon have to do with this? He would have covered off much of the problems with the raiders would he have been returned…

Not sure what your personal qualifications are Robb but I do know that Campese was able to attract on the of the world's best '95's (Draisaitl) to the WHL's smallest market while working within a community owned team's budget.

Enough already with coaches from all over…we have Manson and we have a Tim Leonard who presently coaches the Mintos that can do the job…we have more than adequate local people….keep it home grown

Mrs. Campese,

My qualifications are I've watched as the Raiders have become a sad-sack franchise and, quite honestly, embarrassing. And this coming from a guy who grew up in P.A. and had season tickets until I left home for university. Can this all be Campese's fault? No – but he's the GM and in terms of the on-ice product, the buck stops with him. And the on-ice product has been woeful for years.

Anon #5, The WHL's smallest market? Moose Jaw, Kootenay and Swift Current are all smaller than PA.

Swift is the smallest market in the CHL and they had two of the CHL's best Euro players last year.

Try again.

Very relieved the Raiders went ahead with this. The reason the boys quit playing. The reason Leonard quit. Manson nearly quit multiple times. Not sure why he didn't do us all a favor and knock him out.
