RAMS 33 THUNDERBIRDS 23

REGINA, Sask. – The University of Regina Rams scored a win in their home opener on Friday night, defeating No. 7 UBC by a 33-23 score at Mosaic Stadium.

The two teams were tied at halftime and UBC took a 20-13 lead with a touchdown early in the third quarter, but it was all Rams from there. Quarterback Cayman Shutter connected with Addison Richards for touchdowns less than seven minutes apart, giving the Rams the lead for good.

Richards’ first touchdown catch was from 22 yards out midway through the third quarter, and his second was off a long 41-yard pass from Shutter on the first play of the fourth. Shutter finished 30-for-51 for 430 yards, while Richards led all players in both receptions (9) and receiving yards (133).

Jared Janotta also had six catches for 114 yards for the Rams, while third-year slotback Riley Wilson finished with five catches for a career-high 96 yards.

UBC’s Carson Williams completed 17 of his 30 passes for 220 yards. Josh Kronstrom had a team-leading six catches for 60 yards for the Thunderbirds, who will host No. 2-ranked Calgary (1-0) next Saturday in Vancouver.

The Rams (1-0) will now prepare for their first road game of the season next Friday at Manitoba.

Which town is more of a football town? Both had wins watched by hundreds of fans from one and thousands of fans by the other. The other also had fantastic fireworks, a true college atmosphere and was an event. But maybe there is so much more to do other than football on a Friday night in the one city.

Maybe it's because one city has the roughriders and is satisfied with that and one city does not

Maybe you're right about that if you want to watch amateurs play football that is you're prerogative

That above anon comment about more things to do in another City is just so fricken old and weak. I have lived in the Greater Vancouver area, Vancouver Island, Markham Ont. and Regina. Each City and area offers many, many things to do on any given night. Was 2 blocks away in Toronto when the drive by shooting killed innocent children. Hell in the GV area it takes you a hour to get anywhere to do something. Regina has all kinds of fun stuff to do during the day or prevening time and evening times. The time it takes to… Read more »

Glad I attended the Rams game last night as a last minute decision. The game was very entertaining, lots of great plays, some nice catches and some good hits. And there was some scoring unlike the FNF game. Not sure how the Rams will do the rest of the season but could be a fun team to watch. Need to support not only professional sports but the amateurs too. Otherwise we won't have any. Americans realize this, but we don't in Canada unless it is hockey and I am a huge hockey fan.
