RAMS TO OPEN NEW MOSAIC STADIUM

Monday afternoon the City of Regina announced the University of Regina Rams will host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football game on Saturday, October 1 in new Mosaic Stadium. The game will be the first test of the multi-purpose facility, which will be substantially complete on August 31.

The test game is the City’s opportunity to meet one of the contractual requirements with PCL, the stadium project construction partner. The game is part of the overall Regina Revitalization Initiative Stadium Project and is designed to test the construction of the building including washrooms, public address systems and elevators. Operational plans that will support the stadium including access and egress, transportation, parking and security will also be tested.

“This test game has been speculated about for quite some time and I’m very pleased to make this official. This will give us our first chance at making sure that we all have the fantastic experience we envisioned when new Mosaic Stadium officially opens next year,” said Mayor Michael Fougere.

The October 1 Rams/Huskies game is the first of three tests that will take place prior to the official grand opening in the summer of 2017.

U of R Rams flex packages go on sale on Tuesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. Each flex package includes one ticket to the October 1 game, as well as an option to purchase up to three additional tickets during the pre-sale opportunity. Flex packages are available through  reginarams.com, the Rams administration office, Riderville.com and the Saskatchewan Roughrider box office.

General public tickets will be available on July 26.

A new regular season attendance record for Canada West Universities Athletic Association football will be set with 16,500 participants at the test game.

“We are thrilled to play our first game in our new home this season,” commented U of R Rams Vice President Chris Briltz. “This is a tremendous opportunity for our organization to showcase our product while making history alongside every other participant at new Mosaic Stadium.”

I couldn't think of a better way or better teams to start play in the new Stadium. Both Saskatoon and Regina should celebrate this event. As it's the home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. So to have both of the Saskatchewan Universities playing each other is perfect. Much better than sitting from Aug to July next year with nothing happening.
