Canada is still perfect at the world junior hockey championship. Canada beat the defending champions Finland 4-1 to improve to 3-0 in the tournament in Montreal. Sam Reinhart scored two goals while linemate Anthony Duclair added another for the Canadians.

Earlier on Monday, the Czech Republic needed overtime to defeat Denmark 4-3, the United States blanked Slovakia 3-0 to remain undefeated and Sweden edged Russia 3-2 to stay atop Group B.

A big second period for the Montreal Canadiens led them over the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1. Jiri Sekac and Lars Eller scored goals in the second for Montreal. It was the Canadiens’ third-straight victory.

For the second game in a row, the Toronto Maple Leafs couldn’t hold a lead. This time it was against the Tampa Bay Lightning as Toronto fell 3-2. Mike Santorelli and Joffrey Lupul opened the scoring for the Leafs but Tampa Bay replied with three straight – including the winner from Steven Stamkos in the third period.

It was the Bobby Ryan show in Ottawa. Ryan recorded a hat trick as the Senators defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-2. It was the first time this season that he has scored more than once in a game. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Ottawa.

A tough day for three NFL coaches. Rex Ryan, Marc Trestman and Mike Smith were all fired by their respective teams. Ryan was let go by the New York Jets, former Montreal Alouettes head coach Trestman from the Chicago Bears and Smith by the Atlanta Falcons.
