REBELS 2 PATS 1

REGINA (CP) – Trevor Martin made 27 saves and Red Deer did its scoring in the first period en route to downing the Pats 2-1 Monday in the Brandt Centre.

It was the Pats’ first-ever Hockey Day Game, with 6484 school kids from all across Saskatchewan packing the arena.  Unfortunately they witnessed the Pats’ third consecutive loss and despite the score, Regina was outmatched. They only had twelve shots on goal through two periods.

Evan Polei and Jake DeBrusk built up a 2-0 lead in the first for the Rebels (38-22-3).

Sam Steel responded in the third period for Regina (30-26-7), in fact scoring with one second to go to spoil the shutout bid.  Tyler Brown kicked out 32-of-34 shots in defeat.

The Pats will try to avoid a fourth straight loss on Wednesday when they host the Kootenay Ice at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM.

…Pats didn't compete and the score flattered them. They needed to go to the tough places but just weren't wiling or able to do that. Very obvious that they are simply too small. Were manhandled all game. Probably a short playoff run maybe five games..

Credit where credit due – the Rebels have "bought" a Team for Mem Cup run and if they get the goaltending they are going to be tough. Once they had the 2 goal lead they basically shut us down offensively. Yea we had some opportunities but like the last two games couldn't finish. Enjoyed the game as usual and saw it from a… Read more »

Two days ago the Rebels were beat at home 6-2 by a young Victoria team. The Rebels have been beat by a lot of teams lately and are actually struggling big time. They have fallen out of the CHL top ten and doubtful to do much at the memorial Cup. This losing streak goes back to the winning streak where lots of people we getting giddy with seven in a row including the last four being poor efforts. The team didn't pay the price for the last four wins on the winning streak and felt they could keep playing that… Read more »
