RED DEER, Alta. – Austin Strand, Haydn Fleury, Braden Purtill and Evan Polei all scored in the first period as the Red Deer Rebels took an early lead and never looked back to top the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-2 on Tuesday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Brandon still leads the Eastern Conference final 2-1 despite the loss.

Jeff de Wit added to that 4-0 lead in the second period for Red Deer before Michael Spacek scored on the power play in the third. Rylan Toth made 25 saves for the win.

Kale Clague and John Quenneville replied for the Wheat Kings. Jordan Papirny started in net, stopping 5-of-9 shots in 14:46 minutes of work. He was pulled after Polei’s goal, with Logan Thompson turning aside 23-of-25 shots in relief.

Both teams went 1 for 4 on the power play.

THUNDERBIRDS 3 ROCKETS 1

KENT, Wash. – Ethan Bear had the winner 58 seconds into the third period as Seattle downed Kelowna 3-1 to take a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference final.

Bryan Allbee and Mathew Barzal also scored for the T-Birds, while Landon Bow made 36 saves for the win.

Justin Kirkland was the lone Rockets scorer and Michael Herringer stopped 30-of-32 shots in net.

I guess Kelly must have forgotten to drop off a check at the referee's dressing room. Can't let that happen again.

Kelly isn't exactly complaining about hosting a game 5. Funny how his teams always seem to lose one here or there when they have home ice adv… $$$$$$$$$!$!$!
