REBLACKS HOST RIDERS AT MOSAIC STADIUM

OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS and Saskatchewan Roughriders today announced the REDBLACKS’ historic debut in the Canadian Football League will take place in Regina on Saturday, June 14.

The game is the REDBLACKS’ “home” pre-season game and the “visiting” Roughriders have agreed to host it while Ottawa’s TD Place stadium undergoes its final fit-up for the regular season home opener in July.

“What better place to open a new CFL era than in the city with the most vibrant fans in the CFL,” said Jeff Hunt, President of OSEG Sports.  “Since we’re the home team, I was promised by Riders President and CEO Jim Hopson that the crowd will be cheering for the REDBLACKS and I fully expect that will be the case,” said Hunt (tongue in cheek).

“In all seriousness, though, it will be an incredible experience for fans at the game in Saskatchewan and a taste of things to come for our own incredible fan-base in Ottawa.”

“We’re going to have a lot of fun with this game,” said Hopson. “The REDBLACKS will be on the home side of the field, introduced from their own inflatable helmet and we’re working on a whole series of fan entertainment features to make it really seem like their home game. I don’t think we’ll go as far as calling ourselves the GREENWHITES for the day, but you never know.”

Fans are advised that ticketing information and full game-day details will be announced in early March.

What will surely be a surreal moment for Keith Shologan – returning for his first game on a new team to the same stadium on which he was part of a Grey Cup victory, standing on the "home" side of the field in a brand new Ottawa RedBlack jersey after running out of the "tunnel".

Also ironic that it was the Riders who would not consent to a return to the Ottawa Rough Riders, therefore the RedBlacks.

By the time this free agency thing is done it won't be hard to hate that team from Ottawa. There will be 2 or 3 more x-Riders on their team.

Real nice way for Ottawa to welcome its fans back into the league by not having it's friggin stadium open and ready for the first preseason game. Oh well. I hope the riders can keep some of the money and put it towards our new stadium which will be ready for he 2017 season LOL!!!

Yes, because helping out a corporate partner and the corporation you belong to is stupid right?

How can anyone fault the Riders for this? It is the spirit this province was built on.

Attitudes like that are what has kept the CFL and this province going.

The superstitious belief that it is "our turf" is just ridiclulous, and petulant immature obsessive fandom. I think, more than anything, this sets a precedent for the type of province we are.

I love it!

It is "our turf" and it IS the dumbest idea….ever. I dont care about the province…i care about the roughriders…and i want them to smash other teams in the mouth that step foot on our turf…i want teams afraid to play here because they know they are gonna hurt, and feel the wrath of rider nation. "lets let them come out of their own inflatable helmet…and stand on the riders side of the field…and welcome them back"….naw…lets show those redblacks welcome back with a mean forearm to the head…our field…defending champs…the pain train is coming!! How bout that? You soft..yellow… Read more »

Oh oh, strike 1 against the REDBLACKS. Absolute bush league, this doesn't bode well of things to come when a team is playing their supposedly historic professional sports return home game on someone else's turf and stadium, only in the CFL

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the game closer to Ottawa so some ottawa fans may make the trip to see them. Montreal? Hamilton? Toronto? Guess CFL can't guarantee a sellout and profit at those stadiums so they go to Saskatchewan! As a season ticket holder I hope they don't expect me to pay full price for this game and include it in my ticket package. Riders should wear their ugly 100 year retros to really screw things up. …

Only ignorant Rider fans see this as a negative. The Real Rider Fan sees this as a great way to welcome a new partner into a great league. Will be a great day. There is a reason Ottawa is doing this in Riderville, take it as a compliment instead of looking for the negative all the time.

Cram a sock in it softy…how do you call yourself a "real rider fan" and are happy with this? You want the riders to come out and play in dresses too, while your sipping your tea and eating your creampuffs? Its a garbage idea…we certainly dont need this to be "viewed as a swell province" I sir am a "real rider fan" and see this as a slap in the back of the head!

I see nothing wrong with it, it'll be strange to have the riders on the east sidelines and not coming out of the tunnel. but theres no better stadium in the league to do this. And I think we have a good chance at being the biggest crowd ottawa gets for a home game.
