The Regina Red Sox scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on their way to defeating the defending WMBL champion Swift Current 57s 18-8.

The 57s jumped out to a early lead with a four run first inning and a two run home run shot from Bryan Benz in the third inning .

Offensively for Regina, Riley Hickerson and Griffin Keller both had four hits. Hickerson and David Molder also drove in four runs each.

735 fans were at Currie Field to watch Evan Rogers make his first WMBL start for Regina. Rogers got credit for the win despite allowing seven runs on 11 hits.

Mitch Gilberson tossed 3.2 innings for Swift Current before manager Joe Carnahan went to his bullpen.

The loss was the third straight for Swift Current. Regina is now 1-0 after their first two games were rained out.

Next action for Regina will be Tuesday, June 5 in Moose Jaw.

The Red Sox will be back at Currie Field on Thursday, June 7 when the Weyburn Beavers make their way to Regina.
