REDBLACKS HIRE CHIU TO COACH OL

OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced today the hiring of Bryan Chiu as their new offensive line coach.

“Bryan understands the CFL and specifically offensive line play in the CFL,” said REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell.  “He’s also familiar with our new offensive coordinator Jason Maas after coaching together last year in Toronto so we think that relationship will continue to build and help us be successful. Bryan is up and coming with a long successful career as a player and a promising career as a coach in the CFL.”

Chiu joins the REDBLACKS after taking charge of the Argos offensive line last season. Prior to joining Toronto’s staff, Chiu was the Offensive Line Coach and Assistant Offensive Coordinator for the Concordia Stingers from 2010 to 2013.

The 40 year-old spent his entire 13-year CFL career as a centre with the Montreal Alouettes. He was named a CFL all-star seven times, the league’s outstanding lineman in 2002, and helped the Alouettes earn Grey Cup titles in 2002 and 2009.

The Vancouver native retired as a Grey Cup champion before the 2010 season.

The odds are highly likely and probable that the Ottawa REDBLACKS will have a better on field product In their second year than the Saskatchewan Roughriders with their current gm's direction.

REDBLACKS doing it right by not digging into the old coaching recycle bin. Those now employed by Ottawa will be in demand by other teams in the future.

Anon #7, I don't expect you to appreciate your own irony however; if these are such great hires using such a great philosophy, then they too will be re-cycles when future CFL teams hire them, no?

Your personal philosophy regarding coaches must be that experience makes you less effective. Interesting and more than a little moronic.

Anon #8. irony, philosophy x 2, re-cycles? (recycle) experience, effective, personal, Interesting, moronic …. Nice try!

Where does it say great hires? That will be determined in the future based on team game results. Point being made, "up and coming" (as the article refers) coaching into the CFL, good to see.
