As much as we all love Sholo…not a big surprise leaving him unprotected.
Zach Evans will now get a shot at starting and is probably $50 grand cheaper!

I am sad to see Keith go as he was a great player for the Riders. I know that you can't protect everyone. I wish him the best as he plays for Ottawa!

Not getting leaving him unprotected….most mock boards by everyone had him protected. Only 28 and stalwart on the line, doesn't get hurt, well liked, lived in Regina year round, I think he married a Regina girl too. So I feel bad for him and his family. Thought he would be a lifer here. Leaves us thin for Canadians on the o-line. Wondering who we did protect…..

Wouldn't want the GMs job in this situation but protecting Shologan was a non-brainer in my opinion.

I hope we can re-sign McElveen and keep Foley. Put George and McElveen inside with Foley and Chick outside although now we're short on Canadians in that rotation.

To lose both Shologan and Evans is not good…they were both signed right? No free agent coming home in Feb scenario?

With no Canadian experience on the interior this will create a bit of a ratio conundrum…not the guys I wanted to go! But good on Ottawa they got a solid pro in Shologan and a guy who has produced in spurts when given a chance in Evans.

The Riders choose Rob Bagg over Shologan – Mr Taman has some explaining to do!

I doubt Bagg was protected.

Now, all eyes can turn to the battle over free agents. Drew Willy, will he end up with the Bombers? Will Ottawa give Butler an offer he can't refuse?

I think you will see some trades happening. A few players were taken solely so that Ottawa could parlay them into something else. The Ti-Cats lost Marwan Hage . He has said he may retire if he has to leave Hamilton. Likely Ottawa will offer him back for a draft pick or something like that. The same might happen in Shologan's case. Who knows.

Anonymous … The RedBlacks chose Shologan over Bagg .. the Riders would have protected Getz, four Canadian O Lineman and probably Craig Butler.

A couple of you people are comical. The Riders lost one starter today! ONE! This couldn't have worked out better.
We start 9 Canadians most of the time anyways so this doesn't even have any "concerning" impact. We can replace with an import if needed.
If Sholo was a dick, this wouldn't even be news but he's one of good guys, so is Evans, but in the end, we aren't a weaker team today.

Paco said exactly what I was about to say. I'll just say, maybe we're slightly weaker but we had to expect to lose something.

Deep breath everyone. Only losing one starter is awesome.

I don't feel bad for the team or the fans but I sure do feel bad for the players – especially a guy like Shologan who has been such a strong player and so good in the community. Will miss you, Keith, all the best.

"Mr Taman has some explaining to do!"

Mr. Taman doesn't have to explain shit to you. Shut up.

What Paco said. Today's draft worked out not too bad from the Riders perspective. We could have lost a hell of a lot more than that.

Looks like the bitch-fest is starting up once again. Gotta find something to whine about even though we're the Champs.

Dubya: you are absolutely right on. OK everybody, listen up. STOP CARING so we can get back to the 1980s when no one cared or watched.

This upcoming year will show the real Taman and the Roughriders losing slide into oblivion under his tenure. 2013 much appreciated Grey Cup courtesy of Mr Jim Hopson and his league connections and Intervention of player signings exceding salary cap team expenditures in the year of the Grey Cup on Taylor Field.
